New take on a progression story

It wasn’t earth shattering but I enjoyed it as an audiobook the story is decent with an interesting class for the main character. Reminds me of voltron as the power goes

In the latter half of the 21st century, Alexander and his guild mates play Io Online for fun and to earn a living. Given the chance to test a new experimental immersion system, the veteran players must give up their high-level characters and begin again at level one. As they work through the noob zone quests, they discover that the new immersion system allows them to play in ways that hadn't been possible before. They quickly run afoul of a party of player killers and become the targets of an entire PK guild bent on spawn-camping them until they leave the game. War has been declared.

There’s absolutely no conflict or threat to the main characters

Everything is handed to the main characters on a silver plate. There’s no true nemesis and the combat is laughable. The only time anyone dies is for a joke about bunny rabbits that is a blatant Monty Python ripoff! There is a pvp guild that somehow despite having years of game time can’t figure out how to kill a noob 80 or so levels below them.. not even that actually they never even injure the party and are just there to demonstrate how strong and wise the guild they face is. Also every kingdom they meet treats them like family from the start and everyone in power is a thoughtful powerhouse with magnanimous intentions. If it wasn’t an audiobook that I wasted good money on but instead was a book that I would have to actively read I never would have finished it. I feel robbed of the hours I spent listening.
PLEASE DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME! RUN AWAY.

Alvin knew that he would not be able to stay long, as something was bound to happen to push them back on the road again.

80's nostalgia meets dystopian future

This book is fantastic and Will Wheaton's reading of it allows you to get immersed in the story through most characters sound the same. 😉 To anyone who is an 80's baby or grew up in that decade it brings back memories of times gone by. This book is stand-alone and doesn't leave you wondering about how things will turn out. It's masterfully done on all fronts.
