Historia
Over the past several years, Dr. Becky Kennedy—known to her followers as “Dr. Becky”—has been sparking a parenting revolution. Millions of parents, tired of following advice that either doesn’t work or simply doesn’t feel good, have embraced Dr. Becky’s empowering and effective approach, a model that prioritizes connecting with our kids over correcting them. Parents have long been sold a model of childrearing that simply doesn’t work. From reward charts to time outs, many popular parenting approaches are based on shaping behavior, not raising humans.

Hard to read
Revisado: 05-11-23
I found the narrator voice (which is the author) to be very grating. In this tone of voice so much of the writing sounds like someone talking down to parents like they are children. I preferred Peaceful Parenting over this and would recommend reading it first and reading this after if you still want more content. Many of the strategies she mentions are from that source (but peaceful parenting had more evidence/strategies/explanations). The author has a lot of random ideas/“facts” with few if any sources cited for those concepts. Often the tone is very preachy. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone not yet committed to gentle parenting. There’s some good content, not the first title I’d recommend to folks though.

Historia
Gadsby grew up as the youngest of five children in Tasmania, where homosexuality was illegal until 1997. After moving to mainland Australia and receiving a degree in art history, they found themselves adrift, working itinerant jobs and enduring years of isolation punctuated by homophobic and sexual violence. When Gadsby was twenty-seven, a friend encouraged them to enter a stand-up competition. They won, and so began their career in comedy.

Perfect

Powerful, honest, poignant. Hannah takes the reader along side her journey as a queer person on the spectrum and it’s hard and lovely all at once. You should read this.

Historia
What can parents do to help their youngest children in their task of self-formation? How does the Montessori method of hands-on learning and self-discovery relate to the youngest infants? This authoritative and accessible book answers these and many other questions. Based on Dr. Maria Montessori's instructions for raising infants, its comprehensive exploration of the first three years incorporates the furnishings and tools she created for the care and comfort of babies.

Good aside from some bias
Revisado: 08-03-22
I think this is great resource about Montessori but have to note that there are random statements that show the author can be jaded at times. References to “classical” art and music and statements about “proper” grammar show a strong penchant for classism and racial bias. This book doesn’t take into account that Montessori should be inclusive to all dialects, classes, and cultures. When the author mentions these; ignore it. Montessori was made for neurodiverse learners experiencing poverty. However in this book neurodiverse learners are ignored and not discussed. I hope the author does better but I also hope readers know that Montessori is more thoughtful about these things than the author. Still this is a very detailed helpful resource.

Historia
It’s no secret that we are overworked, overpressured, and edging burnout. Unsurprisingly, this fact is as old as time - and that’s why we see so many prayer circles within a multitude of church traditions. These gatherings are a trusted space where people seek help, hope, and peace, energized by God and one another. This book, curated by acclaimed author Sarah Bessey, celebrates and honors that prayerful tradition in a literary form.

Wonderful collection! I'm working on integrating contemplative prayer and reflective time in my day to day and this is a wonderful resource. I will warn that as an assault survivor, the prayer for victims came on during my drive to work and it was triggering. However, in the quiet of my home, that moment would have been very powerful and a needed prayer. There are gritty moments in here so just be aware they are coming depending where you are listening. This collection is beautiful and needed.

Historia
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").

I liked the premise and themes. I liked getting to know gaffigan. the book just wasn't as good as a show. I wish he'd done voices and that the book didn't concentrate purely on parenthood. worth the 6 bucks for though.
