Historia
What if Mary Bennet’s life took a different path from that laid out for her in Pride and Prejudice? What if the frustrated intellectual of the Bennet family, the marginalized middle daughter, the plain girl who takes refuge in her books, eventually found the fulfillment enjoyed by her prettier, more confident sisters? This is the plot of The Other Bennet Sister, a debut novel with exactly the affection and authority to satisfy Austen fans.

Historia
In ancient Rome, all the best stories have one thing in common - murder. In one 50-year period, 26 emperors were murdered. But what did killing mean in a city where gladiators fought to the death to sate a crowd? In A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Emma Southon examines a trove of real-life homicides from Roman history to explore Roman culture, including how perpetrator, victim, and the act itself were regarded by ordinary people. Inside ancient Rome’s darkly fascinating history, we see how the Romans viewed life and death and what it means to be human.

For the Jane Austen fans, this is an enjoyable story. I was familiar with the characters and their own stories that it was easy for me to keep up - and there are many characters. I applaud Billie Fulford-Brown for the journey she took me on, distinguishing all the characters with her voice.

Speed up the audio setting
Revisado: 09-01-23
I had to list to this book as I was so intrigued. I read previous reviews saying the narration was a hindrance to the story. I started out at the default setting and then quickly sped it up to 1.3x. When I did this, I was able to really enjoy the audio. I recommend you give it a try as the book is very well done.
