If you could sum up Skin Game in three words, what would they be?

The story continues to move Harry and his associates toward some eventual all encompassing challenge and keeps me wanting to follow them and see what they become and do. More than just a series of Harry killing the bad guys.

What did you like best about this story?

James Marsters consistently gives a compelling voice to this series and this book is no exception. For me, he is an integral part of the Dresden universe and he brings all the characters alive and fully captures my imagination.

Have you listened to any of James Marsters’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

There were several moving moments in this book. Uriel passing his powers to Michael was probably the most central but any time Mouse rejoins Harry after grave danger and violence is a moving moment to me. Long live Mouse!!

Any additional comments?

When I bought Storm Front, I thought I was probably wasting a credit. Wrong!! Now after this 15th book I am conflicted between wanting Jim Butcher to hurry with the next one or take his time to do it right. He did it very right with Skin Game.

Would you consider the audio edition of Captain Vorpatril's Alliance to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version but it would be hard to believe the print could do as good a job of conveying the warmth and humor which Grover Gardner puts into this book. His ability as a narrator has caused me to buy more than one bookwhich I would otherwise have avoided.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Captain Vorpatril's Alliance?

The scene where everybody has been rescued from the lab / vault and the Impsec building is sinking into the ground has got to be the high point of the novel. However, it was a close call since Vorpatril's wedding is a very close runner up.

What does Grover Gardner bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Grover Gardner is probably one of the best narrators ever. His capacity to express warmth without turning a passage maudlin and to convey dry humor and irony are unsurpassed by anyone.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The fall and rise of the last great Vor bachelor.

Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed reading each of this series as Lois McMaster Bujoldd carried it from a somewhat whacky, teenish tale of an insecure young man to a complex universe with fully developed characters who act in accordance with their history and experiences. She almost makes me believe the old saw about the best form of government being a benevolent dictator. Her humor tends toward the dry and ironic and it is plentiful. I'm not sure I would have gotten hooked on this series if it had not been for Grover Gardner but his narration and Lois McMaster Bujold's excellent writing have me impatient for more books in this series. I've even resorted to rereading some of the books which I already have.

This book is rich in the history of events and background characters. Glad I read it but was left feeling that there should have been more depth and analysis into the meaning of it all and the implications for our economy. Certainly mentioned possible conflict in interests for some of the players but didn't deal with the implications of those conflicts. Didn't do much to explore the legitimacy of Shiela Bair's desire to preserve the integrity of the FDIC and seemed to give a heroic quality to the "whatever it takes" approach to rewriting the rule book on the fly. So what if the next Fed chairman is less agile or innovative? What about a government of laws?
