Historia
Frank Szatowski is shocked when his daughter, Maggie, calls him for the first time in three years. He was convinced that their estrangement would become permanent. He’s even more surprised when she invites him to her upcoming wedding in New Hampshire. Frank is ecstatic, and determined to finally make things right. He arrives to find that the wedding is at a private estate—very secluded, very luxurious, very much out of his league. It seems that Maggie failed to mention that she’s marrying Aidan Gardner, the son of a famous tech billionaire.

Liked the characters. They were well drawn and flawed. It has a nice build up to something you wouldn’t expect. The reader could do female and a child’s voice well.

Not well thought out
Revisado: 09-05-24
Narrator’s voice sounds too mechanical like the voice of robot. Detectives not very smart. The ultimate killer was even in the frame until the very end, felt random and not in a good way. Can’t recommend.

Historia
During André Leon Talley’s first magazine job, alongside Andy Warhol at Interview, a fateful meeting with Karl Lagerfeld began a decades-long friendship with the enigmatic, often caustic designer. Propelled into the upper echelons by his knowledge and adoration of fashion, André moved to Paris as bureau chief of John Fairchild’s Women’s Wear Daily, befriending fashion's most important designers (Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta). But as André made friends, he also made enemies.

Historia
Growing up Black in rural North Carolina, Ray McMillian’s life is already mapped out. But Ray has a gift and a dream—he’s determined to become a world-class professional violinist, and nothing will stand in his way. Not his mother, who wants him to stop making such a racket; not the fact that he can’t afford a violin suitable to his talents; not even the racism inherent in the world of classical music.

Part mystery/self discovery/historical
Revisado: 04-20-22
One of the better audible books in part due to the narrator mixed with the classical music. The rhythm is the narrative felt like the cadence and flow of a classical piece with tension, harmony/dissonant between the characters and serious. This is a great story.
There were few places when the narrator mispronounced some foreign words but not enough to throw me out of the story. I noticed only because I speak other languages.
I knew that black classical musicians were few and far between and that they face high, intolerable levels of discrimination and racism. Perhaps this story will open minds, out the racists and let the musicians be musicians. I have hope.

Historia
Chief Inspector Van Veeteren knew that murder cases were never as open-and-shut as this one: Janek Mitter woke one morning with a brutal hangover and discovered his wife of three months lying facedown in the bathtub, dead. With only the flimsiest excuse as his defense, he is found guilty of a drunken crime of passion and imprisoned in a mental institution.

Old fashion detective work
Revisado: 02-02-18
I have mixed feelings about this story. My first time reading a Nesser story. The main detective Van something is immediately likeable or interesting. At the end when it’s revealed who committed the murder, we’re told via a conversation between Detective Van something and his 2nd in command. Very anti-climatic you don’t necessarily see the detective work. Van something figures out on his own, in his own head then tells the others involved in the case. Apparently the killer confessed to Van something and that’s that, but there isn’t a scene in which the reader hears the confession. Feels like the writer wanted a tidy ending and to end the story without much effort. Don’t know if I will read/listen to the next in the series.

Historia
Tumba, Sweden. A triple homicide—all the victims from the same family—captivates Detective Inspector Joona Linna. The killer is at large, and it appears that the elder sister of the family escaped the carnage; it seems only a matter of time until she, too, is murdered. But where can Linna begin? The only surviving witness is the boy whose mother, father, and little sister were killed before his eyes. He has suffered more than 100 knife wounds and lapsed into a state of shock. He’s in no condition to be questioned....

Complicated Scandi thriller
Revisado: 01-26-18
Kepler manages to pull off his over complicated plot. Midway, though, the story is bogged with the back story of the main character the hypnotist Eric Maria. If you can be patient, it’s worth it. I liked the reader—he’s the first reader that can do female voices and not sound like a man trying to sound feminine. There’s definitely a twist or two in this story. I’m addicted to Scandinavian thrillers and this one does not disappoint.

Can Nesbo get any better?
Revisado: 05-10-17
I was blown away for how much I love and hate Harry Hole. He's infuriating, caring but careless. I didn't expect the book story to end the way it did. What a twist without being forced. Love this series. Can't wait to see the movie starring Michael Fassbender.

Addicted to Hole
Revisado: 02-08-17
I love this series. Harry Hole is complex, frustrating and can annoy you all at once. This makes for compelling character. The plots of these Hole stories twist and turn then loop back to the beginning of another story. I'm addicted. Love the reader Robin. He is Harry Hole.
