Historia
Alexander Grant is a little too good at a few too many things. Two dozen martial arts. Twice that many languages. Chess, the piano, sports, forging excused absences, you name it. He graduated high school top of his class 17 times. Of course, no one knows any of this. Not that he wants to go unnoticed. It’s just safer that way.

This is a really fantastic book.
Revisado: 04-29-19
I really enjoyed this one. It reminded me a little of seeing Red Dawn as a kid (the Swayze version of course). The characters were great and the story moved pretty quickly without seeming rushed. I really liked the way the world view is played out. It makes for a nice change of pace from the same old tropes of the "collase" genre. Also the main character isnt too gung-ho or badass. Hes just a mostly competent kid who is stuck in his circumstances and he does the best he can without being perfect or always making the right choices. All in all it's a great read and worth a credit.
Some things that put me off:
Some of the charachters die (not really a spoiler since he mentions it in the first chapter) but it was hard to care about most of them because they didnt have very much depth. They felt like they were red shirts in an old star trek episode.
The main character thinks about weird relationship stuff a lot. I guess I've never been a teen in a life or death situation, so maybe this is realistic, but it seems like he has bigger fish to fry.
But dont let that scare you away. The book(s) on the whole is a great read.

Historia
One afternoon at an outdoor market in India, a man’s shadow disappears - an occurrence science cannot explain. He is only the first. The phenomenon spreads like a plague, and while those afflicted gain a strange new power, it comes at a horrible price: the loss of all their memories. Ory and his wife, Max, have escaped the Forgetting so far by hiding in an abandoned hotel deep in the woods. Their new life feels almost normal, until one day, Max’s shadow disappears, too.

So well done.
Revisado: 02-10-19
The premise sounds so silly; people lose their shadows and the world falls apart. But this book is so well written and narrated that any notion of disbelief or silliness is almost immediately quashed.
The way the narration is done is perfect. Each character has a different voice and rhythm to their chapters.
I almost passed this one up based on the description and I'm so glad I didnt.

This book is more about language and metaphors than about an apocalypse, and in only the very best ways. Dont expect a lot of "how it happened" info. Just read (listen) and enjoy the authors wonderful way of making words paint pictures.

Excellent take on the comic book theme.
Revisado: 01-10-19
If you like comic books, or super human stories like X-Men, or Heroes, or you just enjoy a good story well told, this book will not disappoint. The characters are rich and realistic, and the story is paced perfectly. There are a few points where it jumps back and forth in timeline that may throw you off, but the author does a good job of letting you know when a flashback is happening. The narrator is pretty good. She is a little stiff at first and the story suffers a bit for it, but by the end she hits her stride and the characters voices are easy to pick apart, and the story is delivered with warmth. I'm excited to see where the story goes from here and to learn more about the world the author has created.

Historia
You probably won't like my story. Heck, I'm not sure if I even like it myself. Between getting burned at the stake and being drowned, almost twice, it's quite a lot to swallow. I'm not sure where it all went wrong. Everything was going fine my freshman year of college as a history major. I had a full-time job as a paramedic and any girl I wanted was mine. When tragedy struck our family, I found myself in France with my sister, Jules. And she just had to touch that mirror. She had to get us transported to the middle ages. 1155 A.D., to be exact. What. The. Hell.

Long Intro, Not Much Payoff
Revisado: 11-28-18
This book was 3/4 setup before anything actually intersting took place. Not to say that the story was terrible, it just didn't go anywhere. And despite this, the characters seemed fairly one dimensional and bland. I wasn't left with an overwhelming need to know what came next. It may work better if the rest of the story was packaged with it, or the ending took place with a little more resolution and a little less cliffhanger.
The narration was okay, but there were a couple of obvious mispronounciations that should have been caught and edited out. The character voices were interesting and well defined and the pace was right, despite the story moving so slowly.

A great start to a post EMP(?) book.
Revisado: 10-11-18
I've read a lot of books like this one, and this book starts out similar to other books of the genre. The hero is introduced, the "event" happens, and the battle for survival begins. The differences cam in the writing and character. Tha main guy isn't some badass who makes all the right decisions. He is complicated, flawed, and human. I liked him right away. The story is well written, if a little unrealistic at times, and the ending makes you want to know what comes next. I only wish the book was a little longer.
All in all it was a rare treat in a genre that is flooded with copycats and boring, unbelievable books. If you like the EMP/Societal Breakdown genre, younwill love this one.

Friends and colleagues around the world don’t answer their phones. The city of Phoenix burns. He is alone. On the other side of the country, Poe McDowell watches her parents crumble into dust just moments after being shoved inside a coffin-like device that spares her from the same fate.

Amazing Story and Characters
Revisado: 09-07-18
I've never read anything else from this author, so I wasn't expecting anything going into it. I've read a lot of books in the same genre, but this one leaves them all behind.
First off the Narators are perfect. At first I thought Jeff Kafer was a little too "rough" sounding for the character he was portraying, but after a few chapters you really get a feel for it and as the character develops, he fits perfectly. Heather was just perfect (I can't think of any better way to put it). One of my biggest pet peeves is when there are two narators and they do each others character voices completely different from each other, but these two do it flawlessly. The book is great, but these two make it 100% better.
Now to the story. At the beginning I was thinking it was going to be just another apocalypse story with two dimensional characters with a cheesy love story tossed in. I was so happy to be wrong. The story is fun, tense, scary, and entertaining throughout. The characters are likable and believable. The whole story just works so well. The ending wraps the whole thing up perfectly without leaving you wanting.

Space Cowgirls.
Revisado: 08-10-18
There is an obvious nod to Firefly/Serenity here, but it takes the theme in it's own direction. It could have been easily written into the same universe. The story line is a little too close to that of Firefly (in my opinion). The narration is good, but not great, and I didn't find myself caring too much about any one character, but the overall story was fun and easy to stay engaged in. The all girl crew was a cool take on the theme. If you're looking for a fun space cowboy story you'll enjoy this one, despite it's being an almost carbon copy of Serenity's main storyline.

Historia
Channel Two predicted a blanket of snow for Thanksgiving weekend - unusual, but not alarming for the little Maine island. What comes is a blinding blizzard, and a mass disappearance of nearly every person Robby Pierce knows. He and his family flee, trying to escape the snow and the invisible forces stealing people right from the street. Miles away, Brad Jenkins battles the same storm. Alone, he attempts to survive as snow envelops his house. When the storm breaks, Brad makes his way south to where the snow ends and the world lies empty.

A Better "Yesterday's Gone"
Revisado: 08-09-18
This book starts out pretty strange, and then it gets stranger. For a while I was ready to give up in it, thinking it was kinda directionless and just being odd for the sake of being odd. But then about half way through it starts to tie the story up and get some direction. After that the story really draws you in, and I was happy I stuck with it. It had a similar feel to Yesterday's Gone without but with only one narrator and two POV characters (which I though made it easier to follow). The story had a few plot holes and was shaky at times, but overall it was pretty good. The narration was perfect. I'd say of you enjoy strange sci-fi like Yesterday's Gone or Welcome to Night Vale, this one is for you.
