Unbelievably amusing - but it now
Revisado: 07-28-24
I started my John Scalzi adventure years ago with Lock In, but honestly this one has quickly become my favorite. It’s so well written & read. Could anyone be better suited to read Scalzi than Will Wheaton? No, definitely not!
This is suspenseful, keeps the reader engaged & has well developed characters, but honestly it’s the immensely dry humor that just puts it over the top. I literally LOL multiple times while listening to this.
Buy it now. You won’t regret it. (And also you’ll never look at your cat the same again.)

Usually love this author, but couldn’t get past first few chapters of this one. Characters were not engaging & storyline was predictably grating. May just be me, but I’d skip this one.

Loved this story! At first it might seem a bit unbelievable as the main characters fell for each very quickly, but honestly that happened to me so guess it’s not unbelievable at all! Story was so well written I didn’t want to stop listening. And was LOL funny at times which I genuinely appreciated. We’ll worth the time and credit. Add it to your list.

Historia
Set in the 19th century, Isabel Miller's classic lesbian novel traces the relationship between Patience White and Sarah Dowling, whose romantic bond does not sit well with their puritanical New England community. In addition to being an inspiring love story, the audiobook for Patience and Sarah is an ideal listen for young-adult audiences. It is a story that shows how irrelevant race, religion, and gender are to love and that loving and being loved are what keep us human and sane.

Excellent performance, still pretty good story
Revisado: 07-15-22
I read this 30 yrs ago as it was one of the only books in the tiny gay section of the bookstore. I was thrilled to be able to listen on audio with Jean Smart narrating. Story still holds up pretty well given it’s historical context. I understand the criticism of some readers around language choices to describe sex for example, but I can’t imagine being a young lesbian at that time with no reference for what you are feeling. This is a beautifully written love story set in a time when it was incredibly dangerous to be anything other than the norm. Holds up pretty good.

Rare Miss for a Favored Author
Revisado: 06-22-22
Wow. I was so disappointed in this effort by Beers. I usually love everything she does & bought this without a listen to the narrator. Big mistake. Or maybe it just wasn’t for me. Either way, ended up very disappointed from the beginning.
Characters were a bit shallow in development. I appreciated the diversion to every day folks - one of the main characters is a nursing aide working on going to nursing school, the other a new business owner having taken over family’s neighborhood bar. But the narration was so unnerving that I really struggled to finish it. I was so far in, I forced myself to do so but it was a loss. Skip this one. I won’t be completing the series.
Will be hopeful for a return to this author’s better works in near future.

Historia
Accountant and financial advisor Lacey Chamberlain doesn't consider herself a control freak. She's merely a planner-orderly, neat, and content in her tidy little life. When a marketing firm moves into the empty office next door, the loud-music-playing, stinky-food-ordering, kickball-in-the-hall staff make Lacey crazy. Marketing expert Alicia Wright is spontaneous, flies by the seat of her pants, and lives in the moment-all the things Lacey is not. She's also gorgeous, thoughtful, and seems determined to make Lacey like her. They say opposites attract, but for how long? And is that really a good idea?

Painfully bad Narrator, lackluster characters
Revisado: 05-07-22
I bought this because it was written by Georgia Beers without a sample listen or reading the reviews. I typically love all her work. This one I had to finally stop around chapter 6 as I simply could not get past the bad narration. I tried speeding it up to different levels but even that didn’t work. So when I realized I’d phased out during the first kiss chapter three times I finally called it quits as I simply could not get past the narration combined with less than a gaging characters. Skip this one - poorly done all around.

So good!
Revisado: 04-18-22
I was torn at the onset of this storyline as I was not sure if I felt one of the main characters situation was believable in 2022, (spoiler alert!), questioning if a wealthy business empire family would be so homophobic. But then I remembered we living in changing times and homophobia and hate continue to thrive in pockets around the world. So, yeah - it’s believable, sadly for many of us still today.
I loved this book! Great characters. I could totally feel the love and the angst between them. This is very well written and expertly read. Highly recommend. Best I’ve listened to in quite a while.

Eye Opening
Revisado: 01-09-21
This book has hanged my life. I started listening to it on a whim after having yet another disagreement with my difficult mother. A therapist suggest a while ago my mother may be a narcissist but I just couldn’t see it. After listening to the first chapter on the way to work I was hooked.
As I listened to the checklists of traits and criteria, I had to stop and take notes. I found I was checking off every single item. Yes, this one. No 2, definitely. Oh my god! Yeah, no 3 is true and so on. It was completely wye opening.
I finished the first two parts, called my best friend and wept for a lost childhood I did understand. I finally had answers as to why I was never good enough and could never do enough or be enough to make my mom happy.
I texted my therapist to make an appointment since everything I thought I had figured out was now an emotional disaster zone. And I’m on to making new notes on how to heal - hopefully for real this time.
It’s not perfect so don’t be distracted by the frequent ‘howevers’, pauses for a figure or diagram you can’t see or an odd religion of a title and so on. There are some things that could be made better probably by looking at the print edition. But I am so grateful for this Audible. It was accessible and easy to listen to when I needed it. Thanks to the author & Audible for making this available. I’m convinced this is the epiphany I needed to move forward and heal.

Weird - but really good nevertheless
Revisado: 10-26-20
This story line had me rolling my eyes in the first few chapters. I love sci-fi, really I do. But I like my romance suspense more down to earth. I have to admit though that Gerri Hill pulled this one out and oddly enough this ended up being one of my favorite endings thus far. Great duo - excellent performance from Craden as always.
