Interesting characterization
Revisado: 04-17-25
I hate to criticize, but the stilted and fake British accent of the narrator got on my nerves, and the whole thing just dragged along. I tried to speed it up but that was worse.
Characters were interesting, not your perfect leading lady and man.

The best of the series
Revisado: 11-11-24
This is the last book of the series for me as I started out with the last book.
Definitely the best of them all. I liked all the characters and the plot was interesting.
Found some of the characters in the other books not as enjoyable.

Historia
Marvellously atmospheric tale of strangers summoned to a grand but neglected villa on the Italian coast. Each of them has been named in a will, but nobody knows their benefactress.... Four very different people are named in a will. Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice by illness; George, an idealistic scientist who cannot face what his skills have created; Marjorie, desperately poor and unable to dislodge her writer’s block; and Lucius, ostensibly in control but whose personal life is in chaos.

Compelling story
Revisado: 08-18-24
I have to agree with some of the reviews I read. The narration was confusing at first, she made the two women who were schoolmates sound like middle aged women. It was very hard to get into the main characters at first and the storyline was difficult as well. Particularly the introductory chapter about some unknown editor and the young assistant. It wasn’t until almost the end of the book that her relevance became known. By that time you couldn’t go back to the first chapter and check the names.
That is the one big disadvantage for Audible. I wish they would let you read along as well.
The last thing I could mention is that she read the full first and last names of the deceased, and driving force character, throughout the book. I’m not able to write it because of course I never got to see how it is spelled! It was something like Beatrix Maraspina but can’t be sure. It was always the full entire name. Which was talked about a lot! Annoying.
However, once I got into the book I loved it and really couldn’t wait to see how it ended. A fun mystery set in Italy.

A little long and drawn out
Revisado: 07-09-24
The story was complex and uniquely compelling, but there was too much unnecessary description. At one point I thought the author must be getting paid by the word.
The constant quotes by the vine dresser and the naïveté of the heroine got on my nerves. But the scriptural references were nice and the description of God as the father and faith were a nice touch.
Overall it was a good read, but too long.

The most irritating narration ever
Revisado: 06-10-24
The story might be ok if it were three or six hours shorter. It’s not easy to narrate all those characters, but this is the most irritating voice I have ever heard.
Throw in gratuitous Bible verses and so much talk of prayer with evil, I cannot recommend this book.
