Gave up 3 minutes in. The worst sound quality I’ve ever heard on Audible. Sounds like the narrator is standing in a concrete lined room talking at her computer mic from 10 feet away.

I mean the book is terrific, but the narration was incredible for a book like this.

Really enjoyed Woods erudition, scope and humor. Highly recommended for the anarcho-curious. Definitely check out his podcast for more!

A Worthwhile Book About China

If you could sum up The Man Who Loved China in three words, what would they be?

A book about a book (though lengthy and multivolume, the Science and Civilisation of China remains a unitary work) about China through the lens of Joseph Needham. Eminently approachable for the western reader. Relatable as well, through the fusion of eros and logos in Needham.

What other book might you compare The Man Who Loved China to and why?

The Age of Wonder, Holmes.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This is a must listen version. The production quality and acting is just phenomenal. I can't think of a better production in the attention to detail. Just a terrific use of sound effects and music first off; they don't take anything away from the production, which is hard to do in audio only format.

What about Anton Lesser and full cast ’s performance did you like?

Anton Lesser's Hamlet is just first rate. The way he communicates the character in such an understandable way. Rarely have I empathized with a character so well. Standing ovation.

Where does King Richard III rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Best dramatization I've listened too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Brannaugh's Richar both approachable and mysterious.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Terrific that much of his cast from Much Ado through As You Like It joined in.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Of course!

Where does Julius Caesar rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the Top 40 overall and in the Top 3 for dramatizations.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Low hanging fruit is Brutus for this question, but his followers were equally intriguing. Marc Antony terribly complex as well.

What does Andrew Buchan and Sean Barrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Amazing production, they and the rest if the cast really out a lot of effort in and it paid off.

Not Good

A hodgepodge of fragmentary stories slapped together with no consistency of character or plot.

This is the Hamlet 2 of novels.

Guidall was great as usual.

First time for Moore and Stevens - love it!

My buddy recommended this and it was terrific. The novel itself was great, but I don't know how I'll listen to any other Moore novels that aren't read by Stevens - he did a terrific job!
