Giving The Krieg Depth

If you’ve read Lyons’ other Krieg books, you’ve probably got a very specific image of the Death Korp in your head. This book takes that image and expands on it, shows its flaws and its secret doubts. This book gets behind the Death Korps’ facade and really considers the different ways this life would affect a person.

Almost Passed On This One

I’ve already finished the HH series but haven’t listened to every book. I came back to give this book a listen and am super happy I did.

We see Terra in the early days of the war, we see the universe from the perspective of astropaths and navigators, we get a glimpse of the end. This book works because it’s not your standard HH fare, Space marines aren’t the focus and neither is the war, this is a personal story about civilians caught on the edge of the conflict.

Great Perspective, Speedy Delivery

I really enjoy getting to see space marines from the human perspective and this book is loaded with that. The narrator sounds good and does some cool voices, but her delivery is a little fast for me, had to listen at x.95 speed.

Magnus did something right

This was a great listen after going through the Horus heresy, the battle between Russ and Magnus now the stuff of legends. Some fun additions to the space wolves lore showing how they’ve been getting along without their dad.

Another solid Space Marine Battles book.

One of the best Warhammer books

I’ve listened to a lot of Warhammer books and this is definitely one of the best. This is a great listen if you’re all caught up on the Horus heresy, it references big events without just retreading them. This book also does a great job of expanding on that grey zone between “old” and “new” 40K; after the heresy but before the campaign books.

Not a replacement, but a good addition.

If you don’t know the basics of the fall of cadia, parts of this story may be a bit disorienting. Great characters and drama, but if you want to know *how* cadia fell, you should read the campaign book.

“Don’t Cut Anything” - Black Library, probably

The sections from Malcador’s perspective and some of the stuff towards the end are really good. BUT all that is stuck between drawn out descriptions of the palace architecture and discussion about the warp.

I feel like this book Gish-galloped me.

Everything Happens in the Last 3-ish Hours

Much like part 1, there are some great moments here but they’re buried under repetitive discussions about metaphysics.
