Historia
The windows between the many worlds have been sealed, and the momentous adventures of Lyra Silvertongue’s youth are long behind her - or so she thought. Lyra is now a 20-year-old undergraduate at St. Sophia’s College, and intrigue is swirling around her once more. Her daemon, Pantalaimon, is witness to a brutal murder, and the dying man entrusts them with secrets that carry echoes from their past. The more Lyra is drawn into these mysteries, the less she is sure of.

I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.
Revisado: 10-10-19
I'm so disappointed. I loved the original trilogy as a kid but hated books 2 and 3 when I reread them last month in prep for the TV show. I had faith this continuation would be really great and redeem Pullman in my eyes but the man really just needs to focus on a few things and stick to them. This book has no real plot. It's just a very vague journey for very vague motivations and it lacks all logic or continuity of cause and effect. Unrelated things just happen as if it's supposed to be cohesive. The story touches on SO many topics but so shallowly as to be completely irrelevant and disappointing (if not insulting) as themes. Is this about terrorism? spies, religion, the slave trade, animal abuse, monopolies or what. It feels like Pullman thought he was writing deeply about these things but only included a small useless paragraph about each. The book just makes no sense and lacks any kind of sparkle to redeem itself. Also Malcolm being in love with the baby he found as a child? ew. Also there's no chemistry and the characters don't even see each other in this book but we're told they're supposed to be in love now? Everything in the book just feels like a poor pastiche of the original trilogy.

Historia
Sergey and Marina Dyachenko mix dramatic scenes with romance, action and wit, in a style both direct and lyrical. Written with a sure artistic hand, The Scar is the story of a man driven by his own feverish demons to find redemption and the woman who just might save him. Egert is a brash, confident member of the elite guards and an egotistical philanderer. But after he kills an innocent student in a duel, a mysterious man known as “The Wanderer” challenges Egert and slashes his face with his sword, leaving Egert with a scar that comes to symbolize his cowardice.

By far one of the best things I've ever read. These authors are truly amazing. Vita Nostra by them is a must read as well. Wow I'm blown away.

I truly love this series. I think the irreverent humour is absolutely fantastic and the grim storyline is very well done. I hope he write more in this world.

It's great. Stick with it!
Revisado: 11-11-17
So I really enjoyed this book and I think it's something many fantasy lovers will enjoy. Just be sure to stick with it. I had trouble getting into it because I was 3hrs in and felt like little had happened. So I suggest maybe listening to the first bit of the book at 1.25x speed until around the time Iskara visits the prisoner. That's when things start to pick up a lot. I'm just about to start book 2.

Continuity
Revisado: 10-19-17
Okay so I really really enjoy this series so far but I do have a problem with the production. The producer should've made sure the narrators were on the same page. The narrator who voices the boy has lost the continuity of pronunciation. For instance, the narrator in book one pronounced D'Nathael properly. She said it as De-nath-ale but he says Dan-theel. It's very jarring. She also says zheet while he says ja-heed. Things like that. I find it only a bit annoying but you might hate it.

Fantastic Finale
Revisado: 08-24-17
Jemisin does it again. This book does a really good job of answering most of our remaining questions. This trilogy is truly something special and feels it should be required reading in any lit class. The 2nd person perspective is reslly special and is executed perfectly as always.
I'm just a big fan overall. Jemisin is my 3rd fav author. She comes right after Steven Erikson and Guy Gavriel Kay. I can't recommend her enough. He Dreamblood duology is awesome too!

Historia
In his latest innovative novel, the award-winning author evokes the dazzling Tang Dynasty of 8th-century China in a story of honor and power. Inspired by the glory and power of Tang dynasty China, Guy Gavriel Kay has created a masterpiece. It begins simply. Shen Tai, son of an illustrious general serving the Emperor of Kitai, has spent two years honoring the memory of his late father by burying the bones of the dead from both armies at the site of one of his father's last great battles.

Absolutely amazing but...
Revisado: 07-19-17
I'm kind of mad at tbis book. This was such a great story and I enjoyed every bit of it but I found it kind of frustrating as well. I just think this shouod not be the first GGK book you pick up because you have to get used to his themes and style. I recommend Tigana and Sarantine Mosaic. My frustration with this book came from thinking it was about the An Shi rebellion which didn't start until 3/4 through and when talked about was often from far away sourcing witnessing nothing. This book is more about how the world changes as told from the perspectives of some characters than it's about the characters at all. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adored the book because GGK is an amazing authour (second to Steven Erikson in my opinion. Go Canada woo!) and Simon Vance an amazing narrator. I rated it 5☆ after all. But just don't start your first foray into GGK with this book.

Historia
Pyrre Lakatur is not, to her mind, an assassin, not a murderer - she is a priestess. At least, she will be once she passes her final trial. The problem isn't the killing. The problem, rather, is love. For to complete her trial, Pyrre has ten days to kill the seven people enumerated in an ancient song, including "the one who made your mind and body sing with love / who will not come again." Pyrre isn't sure she's ever been in love.
