Nine months of tying tourniquets and pushing new medications, of IVs, chest compressions, and defibrillator shocks - that was Kevin Grange's initiation into emergency medicine when, at age 36, he enrolled in the "Harvard of paramedic schools": UCLA's Daniel Freeman paramedic program, long considered one of the best and most intense paramedic training programs in the world.

Now I get it!
Revisado: 04-21-25
My husband retired from being a Firefighter/Medic after 30 years on the job. 1970-2000. He started as a Volunteer until 1973 when his department went from being a part time to full time, 24 hour shift work. Ambulance crews were limited to Advanced Red Cross cards. That was the highest level of training available. Paramedics and EMT's didn't become the norm for his FD until after the mid 1980's.

So Many Simile's
Revisado: 06-21-24
She may have drowned her digital camera but this memoir was an entire photo album of graphic images of those Three Women absorbing the purple mountains majesty. It's a bonus to have been to Yosemite and the lay of the land but Joan Griffin was coached so well about the use of a simile, her writing literally replaced her camera that got drenched the first day. I vicariously walked along with the Three Women who hiked the trail together. One thing for sure though, I definitely could not reduce my

Can't Get Enough of Catherine Ryan Hyde's writing.
Revisado: 03-02-24
Conflicting characters reconciling is Ryan-Hydes theme in this one. And of course, horses and dogs are an important part of the story. I binged this novel, as it kept me locked in with an intriguing plot as well as a few sub plots that had to be revealed. The novel could have been easily extended by several chapters because there was ample opportunities for the author to add a lot more detail to relationships the subplot's contributed to the story. But that could have been attributed to the Editing. A typical, enjoyable Catherine Ryan-Hyde read/listen.

Intense!
Revisado: 02-09-24
Just finished. Whew, intense! But rest assured The Women is Kristin Hannah's best effort yet. Better than The Nightingale or The Four Winds. That's saying something. I had an Audible version and the Narrator, Julia Whelan, was superb as well. She gave another dimension to the excellence. I'm a Baby Boomer, so Viet Nam was at its peak when I graduated from high school in 1968. My brother was in Country drafted into the Army in 1967. We lost a dear family friend whose name we've touched on the Wall. I lost another to Agent Orange a few years ago. I had no idea what these guys were going through.
Kristin Hannah did an artful job of bringing it to life.

Great Idea For A Party
Revisado: 01-01-24
Another Elin Hildebrand hit. I would have loved being invited to the 5 Star weekend. Drama at every turn. But not unexpected when you put 5 women together. Being one of the top 1% to afford such a bash made the get together possible. So it becomes a fantasy. It was a fun read and a little deeper than most of Hildebrand's stories.

Surprised How Much I Related To This Story
Revisado: 10-21-23
I hope my review doesn't scare readers off but LAST SUMMER BOYS was set the year I was 16, Vietnam was a lie to the American people and
my brother got drafted. Bill Rivers nailed it, describing what the younger sibling was going through. No one paid much attention to us younger ones.. I weeped a bit here and there but the final 5 chapters the flood gates opened and at 1:00 a.m. Pete was off to war. I found myself so angry because my Mother wouldn't let me go with them to the bus station. Angry because I was a little sister and didn't need to be involved with it. So I took it personally and I felt so bad for little Jack, the little brother and main character. Like me he didn't know if he'd ever see his brother Pete again. This story exceeded my expectations and was a great surprise. I hope there's a sequel because I'd love to know more about these characters. The book was well written and the narrator was a fantastic actor.

In the Top Three Kent Kruger books
Revisado: 09-22-23
Tender is the Land, Ordinary Grace the The River We Remember are Kent Kruegers three top books. He really displays his writing talent with these. The Cork O'Connor series is prolific yet gripping. You can tell by the end of chapter one that Kent Krueger spent some time on this book. It is a combination of the coming of age in Tender is the Land and the mystery of Cork O'Connor. The River We Remember is well worth reading, but an Audio version would be best. The narrator/actor did an excellent job.

An All Time Favorite
Revisado: 07-10-23
Probably one of Nora Roberts better efforts. A serial killer with a failed attempt. His target, a woman trying to make it on her own, but falls in love along the way. The killer won't give up and shows up to finish the job. The narrator actually was an actor and put personality into each character. Great entertainment.
