a side story
Revisado: 03-21-10
I've really enjoyed the Pip and Flinx series, but this book seemed to be more of a side story away from the main theme that the other books have been leading us along. I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as the others, and was impatient for it to end or come back to the series story line of the last few books. Maybe it is just me, but this is NOT my favorite book of the series.

loved it!
Revisado: 01-07-10
I have really enjoyed Jack Campbell/John Hemry's works and even though this was his first series it has a great story line and is an interesting topic. Be sure to listen to his comments at the beginning - even he notes that he would change things now, but I'm glad he didn't. It is fun to see his writing style develop as the characters do. Be sure to listen to the rest of the series as well!

Historia
Football has come to the ancient city of Ankh-Morpork - not the old-fashioned, grubby pushing and shoving, but the new, fast football with pointy hats for goalposts and balls that go gloing when you drop them. And now, the wizards of Unseen University must win a football match, without using magic, so they're in the mood for trying everything else.

excellent humor
Revisado: 01-07-10
I love Terry Pratchett and the disc world novels, but this was my first time listening to one rather than reading it. At first, I thought I wasn't going to enjoy it - the novel jumps 'round and it is hard to keep track without the novel in front of you to see the breaks. BUT, as the characters developed, I became so wrapped up in the story that I could disregard it. Great humor typical of Pratchett and a great listen.

Historia
Boss loves to dive historical ships, derelict spacecraft found adrift in the blackness between the stars. Sometimes she salvages for money, but mostly she's an active historian. She wants to know about the past--to experience it firsthand. Once she's dived the ship, she'll either leave it for others to find or file a claim so that she can bring tourists to dive it as well. It's a good life for a tough loner, with more interest in artifacts than people.

interesting book
Revisado: 11-25-09
I'm a big fan of the Retrieval Artist novels, so was interested in this new book (and new world) by Kristine Kathryn Rusch. I found it difficult to get into at first: the book is broken into 3 parts and the first part felt like it could have been (or at one time was) a short story that was converted into a novel. However, once I got past my confusion and discomfort with how the book was structured, I was able to enjoy the story. The narrator is fairly good, though some of the accents seemed off. Overall, if this turns into a series (as I believe the ending implies it will), I will pick up the next book to see how the story continues.

Telling a two-star general what she really thought of him was the mistake Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr made with General Morris. But as a battle-hardened professional, she took pride in doing her job and getting her troops back alive. So after she'd saved the mission to bring the Silsviss into the Confederation - instead of losing them and their world to the enemy known only as the Others - she let the general know exactly how she felt.

interesting concepts
Revisado: 11-06-09
I really enjoyed this book, the second in the Imager's series from L.E. Modesitt. I have been eagerly awaiting it since I picked up the first book on audible. This series is deeper than some, with a slower moving plot as it explores more intellectual and strategic themes, but it has plenty of action to keep you moving forward. And William Dufris is an excellent narrator. Can't wait for the next book.

This is my favorite book of the series, though the series isn't complete yet so I reserve my right to change my mind later. :) I have read them all, and am now really enjoying listening to Dina Pearlmans' rendition of them. I highly recommend the series if you like military sci-fi!

great military sc-fi
Revisado: 06-29-09
If you like strong female characters in sci-fi, then you will enjoy this military sci-fi series. I have actually read most of the series in paperback, but picked up Mutineer on Audible to see how it compares. I thought the narrator did an excellent job, particularly with the Scottish/Highland/Irish characters (though a true Scot may feel differently), and in keeping all the characters voices seperate (and there are a lot of characters). Looking forward to listening to the others soon!

Revisado: 12-04-08
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this trilogy! I picked up this book on a whim, and was so caught up in the story that I rushed to my local library to find the next 2 books. This has all the elements of a great story, including great characters and marvelous adventures. The narrator is also wonderful - she does a great job with all of the voices, including the animals. I'm just sorry that the narrator didn't continue on with the other books (follow up to the triology). I would highly recommend this to those with elementary school children.
