My favorite in the genre!

I’m so happy that this author has come out with another book! I also think it’s incredible that she’s narrates! Everyone is always so opinionated in comments about narrators, so I get it’s a personal
Preference. But I feel like I’m pretty picky, and I think she’s great. She’s gives everything I want from a voice actor. In terms of the writing… I loved the third person point of view in this book where we could hear what other characters were thinking and see their point of you. It was a cute story with great character development, fun characters, and nothing super cringey. That’s one of my main issues with this genre, but never with Sophia Money-Coutts!

Fun story, another win from this author

I love rom coms that aren’t too cringy and have decently fleshed out characters. I thought this was perfect, like all of Portia MacIntosh’s other books. Great narration too.

Everything I’ve been looking for

I really love British romantic comedies with relatable characters that don’t do anything to cringy. This is everything I could’ve hoped for. I saw one review that didn’t like the narration, but I think it’s great! I’ve heard some terrible narration in my 12+ years of listening to audiobooks, and this is definitely not one of them. I love the voice of the narrator. (Who also happens to be the author, which I think is extremely impressive.) and the storyline is paced excellently.
I am so pleased that I have come across this author, and excited to listen to the rest of her books.

Great story, best narrator

I loved this. It’s important for me that this genre does not have huge cringy moments but still can be a rom com. This delivered on that, and the majority of this author’s works do. I’m sad that I only have a couple more of her books to listen to before I’m done! I live the narrator so much, that I’m going to listen to more of the audiobooks she has narrated to lead me to my next series 🤞🏻 this, faking it, stuck on you, and plus one pact have been my favorite of the authors.

My new favorite author in this genre

I’m so excited to have found this author… and this narrator! This is the second book I have listened to, and they have both been perfect! Both the story and the narration are everything I am looking for in romantic comedy. I laugh out loud often, and I do not have to endure too many cringey scenes. Not that there are really any cringe scenes, I’m just easily second hand embarrassed. I was having a real problem with other authors of this genre either being way too cringe or way too unbelievable, and I have enjoyed the light hearted fun. The other one was “faking it” I believe the title was, and they were both great. The way the main characters are written combined with the narration makes them very likable and relatable. if you like lighthearted romantic comedy, I think this author is definitely worth a credit or purchase.

Excellent novel, Mhairi is the best of this genre

I have tried listening to other authors to fill the time between Mhairi McFarlane novels, and it has only made it more apparent that she is the best! The characters and situations are fun, intriguing, and memorable. Thank you for sharing your writing with us!

Fun story from an author I have been binging

I have listened to “one in a million” and “on a night like this” prior to “in case you missed it”. I preferred those two to this one, but I still liked it and will keep my binge going. I like how the love interests in all of these novels have been interesting and sort of straight forward. I was listening to another author before this and she would write the characters to be so perfect for each other but make it take forever for them to admit it… and for some reason I didn’t like it. I like the themes of friendship and self evaluation.

Am I too old for this?

Quick positive review before I vent : Worth the listen, and I bought “book lovers” after finishing it. Explanation for my 3 star story rating: Obvs julia Whelan gives a great performance. Obvs I’m young and hip bc I use the abbreviation obvs. But, this story was annoying a lot of the time. I couldn’t resonate with the friend zone vibe of the main characters. I am 38. I tried to see it through the lens of my 23 yo nanny, and it made more sense, I think. I was annoyed by the way things happened, but that might just be bc it seemed so improbable to me for characters to be so bad at understanding themselves. But maybe that’s reality! Lol. Worth the credit though, imo. Obvs imo… this is literally my review.

Likable heroine, better narrating than sample

I almost passed bc I didn’t like the narrator’s voice in the sample. However, after the first thirty minutes I have changed my mind given how well it fits the character. I laughed out loud often. I’m still at the beginning, but it’s fun and cute so far.
