Historia
Henghis Hapthorn is the foremost penetrator of mysteries and uncoverer of secrets in a decadent, far-future Old Earth, one age before Jack Vance's Dying Earth. A superb rationalist, he has long disdained the notion that the universe has an alternative organizing principle: Magic. But now a new age is dawning, overturning the very foundations of Hapthorn's existence, and he must struggle to survive in a world where all the rules are changing.

Perfect blend of sci-fi and fantasy!

I read this book first, but you should really check out The Gist Hunter short story collection first. I love every Matthew Hughes book I’ve read and I’m looking forward to more!

Tough Times All Over (again)
Revisado: 07-19-24
Hearing Joe read one of his own stories is great! Stephen Pacey also delivers a great performance, bringing all the characters a unique and lively voice.
Tough times all over was the first story by Joe Abercrombie I had ever heard of, coming back to it with the other books under my belt changed it completely!
Hearing the little in between stories after having read the main trilogies colors the world in so vividly. The new and more incidental characters are also great, and I can’t imagine the world of these books without any of them.

A lighthearted accounting of a dark and dangerous world.
Revisado: 06-21-23
The style of writing reminds me of my favorite fantasy books from childhood, and the themes keep my adult self engaged throughout.

He is angry and he is alone, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness, and as he takes refuge in the myths and fairytales so beloved of his dead mother, he finds that the real world and the fantasy world have begun to meld. The Crooked Man has come, with his mocking smile and his enigmatic words: "Welcome, your majesty. All hail the new king."

Best book I e read in years!
Revisado: 11-27-22
The characters are familiar and comfortable, they invite you into their world so seamlessly that you never notice how magical and terrifying everything has gotten until you stop to look back at where the story started.
