Historia
College admissions season at Seattle's Elliott Bay Academy is marked by glowing acceptances from top-tier institutions and students as impressive as their parents are ambitious. But when Stanford alerts the school it's allotting only one spot to EBA for their incoming class, three mothers discover the competition is more cutthroat than they could have imagined.

Great story! Well performed!
Revisado: 05-30-22
Super glad I didn’t read this when my kids were in high school! (Public school 🙀). But I did see/hear stories from my girls who did go to Vanderbilt about shocking tiger moms, and was aghast! Very entertaining peek into a world I knew existed, but hope the theatrics were elevated to help turn pages!!

Historia
When Kate wins an item at her children’s elementary school auction - an all-inclusive trip to SeaView at Sandpiper Bay - she thinks it’s just what her family needs after a decade of career disappointments and a marriage on its last legs. She has no reason to believe that said trip is a Fyre Festival-level fraud and, in fact, the catalyst to her unraveling. But it is. Oh, but it is.

Cringey, funny, an easy listen
Revisado: 05-23-21
I really couldn’t stand the main character... but couldn’t stop laughing at her great one-liners. And then, she sort of redeemed herself at the end? Worth a listen, and a fun short story to pass away time while hiking!

Book description needs a warning about subject of childhood sexual abuse
Revisado: 09-08-20
As a survivor of sexual abuse, I knew the second Edwin handed Mary that nickel he was a perpetrator. I listen to books on long car trips to keep my mind occupied on long car trips to care for my elderly parents. I found myself pulled into my past and very uncomfortable. However, the story is well-written and beautifully performed. I just wish I had known. Still highly recommend, but feel there should be more details to the description so that readers know what they will encounter.

This was a beautifully written story that is so important to read. It was painful, disturbing, honest, and healing to read.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

This is one of the best books I’ve read in a decade. It moved and changed me much like “The Help”, “Before they were Ours” and “We were the Lucky Ones”. The story was riveting, personal, terrifying, and heartwarming all at the same time. I bought it to pass the time on a car trip, but since returning, couldn’t “put the book down” so to speak. I even volunteered to mow the lawn tonight so that I would have an excuse to listen through my headphones for an hour and a half uninterrupted. Raised Methodist, but having a best friend who was Mormon I had learned more than the typical person. I even lived with her family for a summer when they moved to Utah after our freshman year. After that summer I understood so much more and grew more up than I would have had I stayed in Tennessee. This memoir added to my knowledge and helped clarify MY education, at 50, of what I learned through a 14 year old’s eyes. Thank you, Tara Westover
