Intertwined short stories that create a full novel. Well written selections, interesting characters and narrated to perfection. I usually need a character to root for. And there isn't one here. But just desserts was reward enough.

One question: Why all the damaged, defective females? I'm sorry for your mothers, it would be hard to not take that personally.

Chick Lit, but worth a listen. Teen girls would benefit most of all as a cautionary tale. These manipulations start slowly and are disguised as caring until women find themselves in hopeless situations, isolated from family and friends.
At times, the listen drags and seems predictable and repetitive.
Narration was suitable for the story.

A Miss For Me

If you selected this book because you have enjoyed DCI Logan, you might be disappointed. I LOVE JD Kirks books. Always pre-order, and stop what I am listening to so I can jump right in. I enjoyed Him very much. But this lacked the fun, the banter. the clever wit of Logan, Hoon and Filson. I need someone to root for, not a hot mess with mental problems so deep she needs to be institutionalized. Even McCarron's narration seemed excessive; perhaps right for building the suspense, but it only made it worse for me.
I still have three hours left and at this point I just cant face any more crazy. I hung on this long because of my loyalty to Kirk. Might I suggests using another pen name for these dark offerings?

Strong Start...

But soon becomes predictable and tedious. Every nasty, horrible human failing that has appeared in other books of this genre is on display here. Relentlessly so by the end. Collapse and Chaos were enjoyable and worthwhile. But Madness and Darkness descend into predictable, unrelenting misery.
Not a series I'll bother with going forward. And Ill bet I can outline the plot forward accurately.

Reminiscent of Addie LaRue, and unique like the Leap Year Gene of Kit McKinley, a compelling listen. Wonderful characters set in an imaginative plot.
