Historia
Joseph Boyden's first novel, Three Day Road, was a Today Show Book Club selection. Through Black Spruce is the exceptional follow-up to his acclaimed debut. Cree bush pilot Will Bird lies comatose in a hospital, while his wayward niece Annie arrives to sit in silent vigil by his side. Slowly their stories reveal two people previously separated by great distances, beaten and broken, and searching for some sense of where they belong in the world.

Learn your place names!
Revisado: 09-17-15
Great story and generally strong performances but the mispronunciation of the Canadian place names was really grating. Spa-DEE-na? Bath-HURST? Tor-RAWN-to? MAWN-tree-all? And then Mount Royal with a French accent?? It's like listening to an American tourist. Come on guys! Get it together!! At least talk to a local next time.

Historia
Christophe has been in the New World only a year when his native guides abandon him to flee their Iroquois pursuers. A Huron warrior and elder named Bird soon takes him prisoner, along with a young Iroquois girl, Snow Falls, whose family he has just killed, and holds them captive in his massive village. Champlain's Iron People have only recently begun trading with the Huron, who mistrust them as well as this Crow who has now trespassed onto their land; and her people, of course, have become the Huron's greatest enemy.

Beautifully read
Revisado: 07-08-15
This is an engaging story, beautifully read. I enjoyed the performance much more than I would have enjoyed reading the book,

Historia
In Susan Orlean's mesmerizing true story of beauty and obsession is John Laroche, a renegade plant dealer and sharply handsome guy, in spite of the fact that he is missing his front teeth and has the posture of al dente spaghetti. In 1994, Laroche and three Seminole Indians were arrested with rare orchids they had stolen from a wild swamp in south Florida that is filled with some of the world's most extraordinary plants and trees. Laroche had planned to clone the orchids and then sell them for a small fortune to impassioned collectors.

Candidate for most irritating narrator ever
Revisado: 05-27-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
A fine story but I could not get past the squawking, nasal narration. Wish I'd known I could return at the time; definitely a better one to read yourself.

Fantastic reading of a classic
Revisado: 05-24-15
This story seems to have followed me through the Canadian education system. Claire Danes' reading really puts life into it.

Historia
Universally acclaimed from the time it was first published in 1968, Slouching Towards Bethlehem has been admired for decades as a stylistic masterpiece. Academy Award-winning actress Diane Keaton (Annie Hall, The Family Stone) performs these classic essays, including the title piece, which will transport the listener back to a unique time and place: the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco during the neighborhood’s heyday as a countercultural center.

Diane Keaton allowed this to be released?
Revisado: 05-15-15
This is one of the worst Audible recordings I have heard. I could not abide the mispronunciation throughout of common words and the semi-quixotic, sing-song reading that sounded as though Keaton were reading everything for the first time and didn't know how the sentences should end. It was really trying to catch any coherence and I wish I'd just read the book myself.
