Anyone who has been through medical training can relate to this story. The dynamic between the self absorbed physician researcher and the powerless student narrator made me cringe. Essays such as this should be required reading for those at the top.

I had only vague knowledge of who Ronan Farrow was until I read his book. His writing talent and dedication to the truth are refreshing in a world where executives "kill" stories that may hurt their bottom line, then lie about it. "Catch and Kill" is investigative journalism at its best. But oh so frightening that not only are powerful perpetrators protected, but powerful institutions, such as NBC and former Israeli intelligence operatives, are complicit in protecting them. Mr Farrow, please keep writing, I'll keep reading!

The author, Jeff Hobbs, treats Robert Peace with such dignity. Robert is talented and has great potential. Ultimately he cannot break free of his original community to take his place in the bigger world. His story transcends race and socioeconomic class. There are many talented individuals who stay with what is familiar and become trapped in getting by, passing up opportunity due to the discomfort of leaving their old world behind. I became so fond of Robert, and respectful of those that loved him that I could not listen to the end of the book. His story, especially the love and sacrifices his mother made for him, will stay with me for a long time.

Elementary medical case reports. Suitable for college students and first or second year medical students. More experienced medical professionals will turn this off after the 3rd or 4th case.

Much more here than surfing

There is so much more in this book than just surfing and description of waves. I am not a surfer, but learned there are as many descriptions of waves as Alaska natives have of snow. Beautifully narrated by the author, it is about life as a youth in the 60s, friendship, travel, taking risks, failures, serendipity and the love of family. One of my all time favorites.

It's hard to say something uplifting about death and Nazi Germany. This book manages to illustrate how it's the humanity we show others--seemingly small gestures--that truly make a life worth living. I highly recommend this book.

I have listened to this three times--it goes quickly--and each time heard new things. The fact that we all have "agreements" about who we are resonated with me. Now that I am able to choose healthier agreements, it is liberating to recognize agreements decided for me when I was young. Worth listening to for anyone in the throes of self reflection.

Another fun and paradigm-shifting book from Malcolm Gladwell. I like that he points out how small groups can influence thousands. I recommend all his books.

The material in this book is interesting because it looks at data and puts a different interpretation on facts: Why crime rates are falling, the success of different cultural groups and why language rules makes some learning easier, etc. I especially enjoy listening to Malcolm Gladwell read his books--this is the third of his I've listened to. I plan to listen to all of them, his insights are noteworthy and his performance makes listening so soothing.
