Well worth reading
Revisado: 12-03-24
Just finished Jack Carr's "Targeted: Beirut". This book was an eye opener. The events of the story happened when I was 13 and I remember the news from then. Given what has happened since this and what is happening today, this is a great book to read to go back and try to understand what was happening 40-45 years ago. It is a tragic story, but the Middle East is full of tragic stories. I encourage those interested in the middle east to read this story.

Historia
Gravity affects every aspect of our physical being, but there’s a psychological force just as powerful - yet almost nobody has heard of it. It’s responsible for bringing groups of people together and pulling them apart, making certain goals attractive to some and not to others, and fueling cycles of anxiety and conflict. In Wanting, Luke Burgis draws on the work of French polymath René Girard to bring this hidden force to light and reveals how it shapes our lives and societies.

Possibly the Best Book of 2022
Revisado: 12-10-22
Luke Burgis writes a book that brings an important topic to the public in an accessible way and yet makes you want to go deeper into Rene Girard’s theories. Wanting is well written and well performed as an audio book. The message of the book is about why we want what we want. The answer to this question points to how toxic and corrosive modern life had become to our core understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Luke approaches the topic of mimetic desire in a clear and approachable way.
This is the must read book of 2022….which is mimetic in itself. Luke has given Girard a breath of life and brought him to the masses. We need more introspective books like Wanting.

Historia
Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Another Goggins Book with Perfect Timing
Revisado: 12-10-22
I read “Can’t Hurt Me” in summer 2020 and it changed my life. I was overweight, was recovering from cancer, had had a major snowmobile accident, lost my dad and my business was struggling…..I needed to breakout. CHM was the book for the time, it got me up off the couch and I started walking……in 2021 I completed a ½ marathon and in 2022 I completed my first marathon.
Now comes Never Finished, again at the perfect time for me. The book I needed.
The message, the tools and the delivery are all perfect. Goggins’ tells you like it is, gives you some methods to deal with it and move forward. The Audible book is the only way to go….because you get the reading of the chapter then the story behind the chapter direct from David’s mouth…..which is extremely powerful.
I rate books one how many I give away after I have read them. CHM is #1 on that metric, but it may now have a competitor.
