Calling b.s. on this book
Revisado: 08-18-19
I'm sorry but 7 hours to talk about something that takes 5 seconds is a waste of my time. I've tried twice to get through this book and both times around hour 3 I tap out. The author is full of it and spends too much time stroking her own ego. The concept is okay. Act intelligently on impulses but that's as far as it goes. Mel gives herself way too much credit. She invented nothing.

Great story but ended quickly
Revisado: 07-21-16
I really enjoyed this book, my only complaint is it was too short, it felt almost like an abridged copy. Nonetheless, the story was excellent, narration spot on and not too overdone. I'm hoping there's a sequel

Disenchanted with Dresden
Revisado: 07-23-14
Great series but I'm a little tired of the Dresden files. It is the same material repackaged, same magic spells (ventas servitas, fozare, etc.), same foes. I like the plot change Butcher has taken the series since Changes but I just don't see where the series is going. I kind of miss the old detective Harry Dresden.

Historia
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Big disappointment
Revisado: 06-02-14
This is nowhere near the quality of writing as the Star Force novels. Story line drags on & takes too long to get to interesting parts of which there are only a few. I expected more from this author, I listened to the entire Star Force series and thought it was great but the characters, plots and story development in Steel World seemed less mature. I could not connect with the main character either, he never struck me as a hero at any point in the book. Mark Boyett also does the narration and does an okay job - he basically puts on an annoying southern drawl to his Kyle Riggs voice..overall a big disappointment. Will not be continuing the series.

Historia
How do you keep the people you care about safe from enemies you can’t remember? Ten years ago, Nate Garrett awoke on a cold warehouse floor with no memory of his past and the only clues to his identity were a piece of paper with his name on it and a propensity toward magic. Now he’s a powerful sorcerer and a successful thief for hire, but it turns out that those who stole his memories aren’t done with him yet. When they cause a job to go bad, threatening a sixteen-year-old girl, Nate swears to protect her.

This is no Dresden Files
Revisado: 05-31-14
Listen to the other reviews. Poor choice of narrator, lots of flashbacks to prior periods in the story line made it tough to follow. The main character also is a bit of a self serving derelict who I could not connect with at all. When I listen to these kinds of books (paranormal, soft sci-fi) I like to put my mind on cruise control, I really don't expect them to be difficult to follow. I got about 7 hours in and tapped out.

Freaking Awesome
Revisado: 05-28-14
Realistic end of the world story from the perspective of a survivalist. The author does tend to explain a lot of jargon and survivalist psychology but I found that to be interesting and damn useful. This was also my first experience with the narrator - this guy did a great job he fully embodies all of the characters. I've already purchased the next volume.

This Lovecraft classic is a must-have for every fan of classic terror. The barren landscape offers no evidence of any life form - until they stumble upon the ruins of a lost civilization. Strange fossils of creatures unknown to man lead the team deeper, where they find carved stones dating back millions of years. But it is their discovery of the terrifying city of the Old Ones that leads them to an encounter with an untold menace.

Boring & dry
Revisado: 05-28-14
This was my first HP Lovecraft..I was disappointed, Narrator is great but the producers of the book had him speak in a dry professor's voice so I couldn't even enjoy that aspect of the book. The story itself is just boring...there may be some interesting concepts buried in the details but I couldn't find it. I got 4 hours in and tapped out...I will give one of his better reviewed books a chance he's the godfather of horror after all.

Not McCammon's best
Revisado: 01-09-14
If you're expecting the same quality as Swan Song or even the Matthew Corbett books then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a decent vampire or urban horror book then this is a great choice. Porter does a decent job narrating but after listening to so many books narrated by this guy I feel like he over-acts sometimes but still a very good narrator.

Meh...okay zombie book
Revisado: 08-22-13
The author can definitely write and tell a story, but for me it was just not that stimulating. The narrator was so-so, there were times I thought he could have used more enthusiasm and vocal inflection especially with the zombie attacks. If part 2 goes on sale I will get it otherwise continuing the series is at the bottom of my list
