The next books change the narrator

I loved this book and the narrator. I was tricked into buying the next book thinking it would be more of the same quality. I was wrong.

Historia
A teenage mage of humble birth and slightly above-average skill, Zorian is attending his third year of education at Cyoria's magical academy. A driven and quiet young man, he is consumed by a desire to ensure his own future and free himself of the influence of his family, resenting the Kazinskis for favoring his brothers over him. Consequently, Zorian has no time for pointless distractions, much less other people's problems.

Starts slow, just keeps getting better
Revisado: 04-28-23
I was initially a but worried about this story. it's a but of a slow burn, with the author taking their time to slowly set things up and progress the main character's abilities. It never felt like a slog aside from the first couple hours where it's mainly typical teenage musings and school drama. it really just keeps getting more interesting the longer it goes on. The main character isn't overpowered or overly strong or lucky. He isn't even more than above average in terms of intelligence. The magic system is simple but doesn't feel cheap or gamey. Overall just a very consistently solid story about a mage stuck in a time loop and getting in over his head. I recommend it.

Very enjoyable cultivation fantasy book. I hear this is the most dull book in the series, and that makes me eager to hear the rest. Would recommend if you want something to listen to and you like litRPGs but don't like the system element.

More flawed than I remember.
Revisado: 09-11-21
Crichton manages to keep this a mostly coherent story, only meandering into technical details and philosophical ranting briefly before returning to the tale. It has an unnecessarily slow start, which I imagine is supposed to build up the suspense and mystery, but I cant see anyone actually getting through all of it without already knowing what the book is about.
One thing that I noticed this time is the raptors are weirdly presented as superhuman movie monsters who want nothing more than to murder every human on the island. Specifically humans. They have a single minded desire to slaughter everyone they can and will stop at nothing to accomplish that goal. Electric fences, walls, doors, even physical injuries and death doesnt phase them in their quest to destroy all humans. They will literally chew through steel bars. Normally this wouldnt really bother me, but the book goes into such excruciating detail about the habits and behaviours of animals in other areas that it just doesnt make sense that the raptors are so ridiculously murderous. Maybe something went screwy in their genes.
Lex is totally insufferable. She is suicidally annoying. She cant seem to get it through her head that there are dinosaurs trying to eat her and maybe she should shut the hell up and do as she's told. She's a plot device to get the characters in danger and it's very irritating.
Overall I feel like this book needed another draft to really reach its potential. It has cool ideas and decent characters, but it needed trimming and polish. But hey, its Jurassic Park and its Crichton. You probably know what you're getting into.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. Historia
This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world - and did. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he fight his hardest battle not against his enemies, but against the woman he loves? Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus and launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon.

Better Narrator
Revisado: 05-02-21
I've only listened to an hour and I can tell the narrator is miles better than the newer one. Get this version. You're going to be listening for literal days. It's worth the credit. Great story, relevant message, too long to read. Listen to it. You'll be hooked within half an hour.

Enjoyable, a little over the top sometimes
Revisado: 01-31-21
A bleak and violent story about the devastation of earth and the subsequent escape from it. It sort of jars back and forth between gritty hard reality and ridiculous action schlock. I enjoyed it for a majority of the time, it didn't drag too long, and I want to know what happens next. That gets it a pass in my book. I really like this narrator too, he matches the subject matter well.

I laughed out loud many times over the course of the book, The narrator is very unique, and gives the characters personality in the way only the author could. Drags only a little in the second half, but wraps up nicely in the end. I'm getting the second one.

Sort of Pessimistic
Revisado: 04-16-19
After the bobiverse series and now this book I'm starting to think Dennis has a problem writing believable antagonists. The entire world almost falling to chaos over an unsubstantiated rumor about aliens is pretty absurd. The SSE come off like a comic book evil empire. It's a good story, but it ends just as it's getting particularly interesting. Coming from the author of the bobiverse, this feels like a first act. I hope theres a sequel.
