History Repeating Itself
Revisado: 07-28-19
At first I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this book. Its voice wasn’t what I was expecting. Instead of an adult book on the relocation of Japanese Americans during WW2 I found it to be a book for upper middle school students. Once I got used to that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although I knew that Japanese Americans in California were relocated into camps I thought they stayed in California and not shipped to Colorado and Wyoming.
I chose the title of this review History Repeating Itself because as I was listening to the book I kept thinking that the same thing is happening in America today. Immigrants/illegals are being rounded up and put into camps or deported even though they have lived and worked in the States for many years. Too bad we can’t learn from our past!!
I highly recommend this book to all upper middle school students to read about this part of neglected history.

A time travel book for teenagers
Revisado: 05-24-19
I chose this book because my favorite genre is time travel and I enjoy most of Matthew Reilly’s books. It took me awhile to get into it because the time travel element took awhile to come about. Also it is really geared toward teenagers.
Once I finally got into the story I enjoyed the book.
During an interview with the author, Reilly stated that this was a stand alone book but I wonder if that is true as there seems to be clues to the possibility of more to come.
One thing I DID NOT like about the book was the use of the “f” word. Now I was a high school teacher/librarian so I know that some teenagers use profanity but not all, so I don’t know why authors have to include this type of language. I currently volunteer in a library at a Christian school and would have recommended this book it it hadn’t used the profanity.

Why did I wait so long???
Revisado: 03-27-19
I tried reading this book years ago but put it down thinking it was horrible and wondering why so many people rave about it. Finally after hearing on the radio AGAIN how great it was I thought I’d give it a go especially since I had it in my Audible library for years!
This time I was hooked right away. The descriptions were wonderful and the reader was outstanding with his ability to use voices that suited each character.
Now I feel confident enough to watch the movie. One thought is that I don’t remember a rabbit named Bright Eyes!

Revisado: 08-18-18
I don’t always like an author reading their book. Just because one can write doesn’t mean they can read! But Carole Baker Sager did a wonderful job ( except for her Aussie accent. 😊) l was amazed to learn about the many songs she helped write and also how she had such low self-esteem.
If you like memoirs or biographies of celebrities you should enjoy this book.

Even Gracie’s box of pills was beginning to make sense. For the past five years, Hayley Kincain and her father, Andy, have been on the road, trying to outrun the memories that haunt them both. They moved back to Andy’s hometown to try a “normal” life, but the horrors he saw in the war threaten to destroy their lives.

Always Preview a Book!
Revisado: 12-18-17
I usually listen to the short preview of a book before I choose it but because I admire Tom Hanks I just clicked the link to buy it. I could say it was a bad choice but the story was interesting and I found out quite a bit about one of Hollywood’s great actors so it wasn’t a complete waste of my time and credits but the reader WAS TERRIBLE. It was a good book to listen at 1.25!

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

Remembering
Revisado: 07-15-17
I chose this book because it was on a reading list for high school where I was the librarian. Listening to it brought back memories of my brother and other young men of my generation who fought in the Vietnam War.
I kept thinking,"Was this what my brother went through?" He never really talked about the three tours he had in Vietnam in the Special Forces unit. I wonder if this book, written by a Vietnam vet, would be a good book for him or other vets to read or would it bring up many terrifying memories because Tim O'Brien's writing is very graphic.
At the end of the book Audible had a special addition with O'Brien speaking and telling even more personal recollections of his time during and after the war.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good insight into the Vietnam War or who thinks war is the glamorous and exciting adventure shown in many movies.

Revisado: 01-06-17
This a prequel to The Maze Runner series and I want to suggest to everyone that you should not read this book until you have read the series. The whole book would be a spoiler. Having said that, I have to say that this is a great read. It makes me want to reread the series again!! LOVE LOVE LOVED IT. If you enjoyed the series you'll enjoy this.

This series was popular when I was a teenager and it still holds up for a good teenage story. This first book tells us how Kevin and Sadi met. It's also a good series to learn about the fighting between the Catholics and Protestants.

Reader was fantastic.
Revisado: 05-28-15
Although it wasn't one of my favorite books (fantasy with strange, Welsh-like character names), I enjoyed the book, especially the reader. I truly enjoyed hearing him SING the songs. Elfish language ? I would have skipped past it if I was reading it, but he made it sound very real.
