Historia
The planet of Kiln is where the tyrannical Mandate keeps its prison colony, and for inmates, the journey there is always a one-way trip. One such prisoner is Professor Arton Daghdev, xeno-ecologist and political dissident. Soon after arrival, he discovers that Kiln has a secret. Humanity is not the first intelligent life to set foot there. In the midst of a ravenous, chaotic ecosystem are the ruins of a civilization, but who were the vanished builders and where did they go?

"Alien Clay: Creative but Slow"
Revisado: 04-28-25
Creatively explores evolution, offering fresh perspectives on adaptability and transformation. While its ideas are thought-provoking, the pacing feels slow at times, with some themes repeating in ways that can drag the narrative. Nonetheless, its originality and depth make it a compelling read for speculative fiction fans.

Historia
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

You will find yourself packing an emergency backpack, just in case!
Revisado: 03-31-25
Octavia Butler's *The Parable of the Sower* is a masterful and evocative novel that pulls readers into a dystopian future marked by hardship, hope, and profound introspection. With a powerful message at its core, the story feels urgent and deeply resonant. The characters are incredibly well-developed, their struggles and choices grounding the narrative in a stark realism that lingers long after reading. Butler's vivid and uncompromising portrayal of this world makes it impossible not to connect with the challenges faced by its inhabitants. Discovering this exceptional author and her works feels like uncovering a literary treasure, both provocative and inspiring.

Enemies to lovers tale with predictable ending
Revisado: 02-26-25
While I could have done without the unnecessary graphic sex scenes, the plot itself was compelling enough to keep me hooked. What truly stood out was the portrayal of post-war Holland, which made me want to educate myself more about this historical period. The rich narrative and interesting characters made it a memorable read.

Historia
Colombo, 1990. Maali Almeida—war photographer, gambler, and closet queen—has woken up dead in what seems like a celestial visa office. His dismembered body is sinking in the serene Beira Lake and he has no idea who killed him. In a country where scores are settled by death squads, suicide bombers, and hired goons, the list of suspects is depressingly long, as the ghouls and ghosts with grudges who cluster round can attest. But even in the afterlife, time is running out for Maali.

Who doesn’t love a purgatory tale?!
Revisado: 02-21-25
"The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida" weaves together the haunting beauty and bloody history of Sri Lanka with a modern purgatory tale. Following Maali Almeida, a war photographer in the afterlife, the story explores the nation’s turbulent past and its stunning cultural and natural landscape. Karunatilaka’s blend of historical fiction and magical realism creates a compelling narrative that delves into profound themes of justice and redemption.

Historia
Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties—successful, competent, and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women—his enduring first love, Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret.

Sally Rooney and her recognizable minimalism and beautiful storytelling
Revisado: 01-04-25
"Intermezzo" is a beautifully written novel that delves into the sorrowful depths of grief with a slow, melancholic pace. The author’s rich, evocative language and intricately crafted characters make every page a profound experience. Through its vivid portrayal of how different people process loss, the story captures the essence of human suffering and resilience. This thoughtful examination of grief adds a layer of authenticity and resonance, making "Intermezzo" a deeply moving literary journey.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 10-10-24
Unfortunately, *Stardust Grail* wasn't to my taste. The constant cry of "Mayyaaaa!" became a grating refrain throughout the book. The plot lacked originality and was filled with rather unlikable characters. While it drew inspiration from adventurous tales like Indiana Jones, it didn’t quite live up to the expectations or the hype.

Great read, interesting take on Alien vs Human
Revisado: 10-10-24
As a big fan of both the Expanse books and TV series, I was eagerly awaiting James Corey's *Mercy of Gods* and I was not disappointed. The book masterfully draws you into its rich tapestry of characters and gripping storyline. It's an engrossing read that left me wanting more. My only hope is that the upcoming books in the series maintain this momentum and don't drag out the narrative unnecessarily.

Most people want to avoid thinking about death, but Caitlin Doughty - a 20-something with a degree in medieval history and a flair for the macabre - took a job at a crematory, turning morbid curiosity into her life’s work. With an original voice that combines fearless curiosity and mordant wit, Caitlin tells an unusual coming-of-age story full of bizarre encounters, gallows humor, and vivid characters (both living and very dead).

Revisado: 09-15-24
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty is a surprisingly enjoyable memoir about her experiences as a mortician. Doughty’s candid and humorous writing makes death approachable, encouraging readers to embrace it as part of our humanity. Her personal anecdotes and cultural insights are both informative and deeply human. This book challenges societal taboos and invites readers to rethink their relationship with death. A must-read for anyone interested in the funeral industry or seeking a fresh perspective on life’s end.

Agent Isaac Steele has problems. He spends all his splibs on drink and drugs. He has some deep-seated and very much unresolved issues with his parents. And his robotic partner at Greatest Britain’s Department of Clarification, Dr Timothy Stephens, is ruled more by his heart than his hard drive. But all these issues take a back seat when Isaac stumbles upon a case involving the most sensitive information in the cosmos - a Never File, inaccessible to all except those with the highest clearance. He is expressly forbidden to involve himself. So naturally he does.
