Historia
Join Clara Parkes on a cross-country adventure and meet a cast of characters that includes the shepherds, dyers, and countless workers without whom our knitting needles would be empty, our mills idle, and our feet woefully cold. Travel the country with her as she meets a flock of Saxon Merino sheep in upstate New York, tours a scouring plant in Texas, visits a steamy Maine dyehouse, helps sort freshly shorn wool on a working farm, and learns how wool fleece is measured, baled, shipped, and turned into skeins.

Yarn Journey
Revisado: 02-23-21
What an interesting journey following Clara as she shared her experiences bringing fleece from a 600 pound bale to its completion as skeins of yarn.
This was a very illuminating book about all the processes involved.
As a passionate knitter I thoroughly enjoyed learning about how the yarn I so take for granted got to where I am able to knit with it.
Thank you for taking me along on your journey.

Extraordinary!
Revisado: 01-22-21
What an engaging, informative and encouraging book. I wish something like this had been around many years ago. While my entrepreneurial days are long past, my knitting days continue and I so enjoyed knitting and listening to Shelley’s amazing journey. Thank you for taking the time to educate and inspire others.

With warmth, honesty, and deep wisdom, McLachlin invites us into her legal and personal life - into the hopes and doubts, the triumphs and losses on and off the bench. Through it all, her constant faith in justice remained her true north. In an age of division and uncertainty, McLachlin’s memoir is a reminder that justice and the rule of law remain our best hope for a progressive and bright future.

Inspirational and delightfully educational
Revisado: 02-27-20
As a US citizen, of an age similar to the author’s, married to a lawyer (now retired) and a frequent visitor to Canada, I thoroughly enjoyed this journey and the way the laws were spelled out in terms a layman can understand.
Hers were heady times in the law in both countries and I was intrigued at how the Canadian Supreme Court judiciously handled them.

Historia
Some people's lives are entirely their own creations. James Rebanks' isn't. He's the first son of a shepherd who was the first son of a shepherd himself; his family have lived and worked in the Lake District of Northern England for generations, further back than recorded history. It's a part of the world known mainly for its romantic descriptions by Wordsworth and the much-loved illustrated children's books of Beatrix Potter. But James' world is quite different. His way of life is ordered by the seasons and the work they demand.

A Glimpse into a Different World
Revisado: 06-05-19
I so enjoyed this book. I initially picked it up because I am a passionate knitter and was interested in learning a little about the life of people involved in the wool world. While these particular sheep are not raised for their wool, tending them is probably similar to that of the wool producing type. I could not believe how difficult a life a shepherd leads. The commitment is year round and intense. I have gained a new respect for the whole industry and all its perils. The book is also beautifully written and the narrator excellent.
Thank you, James Rebanks!
