Faith, blues and rock and roll
Revisado: 12-10-24
This book was even better than Dion's autobiography, the Wanderer. As a Catholic I feel embolden in my faith to hear the way Dion wears it on his sleeve and explains it with clarity and pride. That meant as much to me as the stories of his blues and rock and roll development. Dion has a great voice, great taste in music and great style. He delivers it all with honesty, class and dignity. He is truly one of my all time heroes. Anyone who cares about music and its deeper meaning should read this book!

Just add Katie!
Revisado: 09-01-24
Discovering the kind of person Ms. Ledecky is as much as learning about her swimming prowess made this book more enjoyable than it otherwise would have been. Her humility, integrity and devotion to her Catholic faith inspired me as much as all those medals. Audio books are also always better when the author reads them which Ms. Ledecky does this one. She is an inspiration champion and one our young people can try to emulate in many ways! Thank you for Just Add Water!

Another Brilliant Kearns Goodwin book
Revisado: 08-02-24
Usually when I am reading a book I want to finish so I can go on to the next one. No so with Kearns Goodwin. I start getting sad about 100 pages from the finish. This book about the amazing sixties and the roles she and her husband played in witnessing and shaping history is riveting. John and Robert Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson were larger than life characters and we won't see their like again. Richard and Doris Goodwin were part of it all. This is just a great book!

Mike Aquilina never fails to inform me. I learned much about angles in this book. I will be more aware of my guardian angel because of it. I did not appreciate the sudden interference of Mathew Kelly at the end!

A gifted storyteller and spiritual director, Father James Martin, SJ, invites listeners to experience the stories of the Gospels in a completely new, vivid, and exciting way to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus. Moving sequentially through the Gospels, considering not only familiar passages but also the "hidden life" of Jesus, the book offers a bold retelling of the life of Christ, faithful to the Christian tradition, while meditating on parts of the narrative that have often escaped notice.

Revisado: 05-07-24
In all fairness I walked the same path in the Holy Land less than a year ago. But Fr. Martin brought everything back to life. The lessons he attached to the story of each site really help me spiritually. This is not the first Fr. Martin book that has moved me and it won't be the last. He is very much a spiritual advisor to me!

Historia
The National Football League's current dominance has obscured how professional football got its start. In The League, John Eisenberg reveals that Art Rooney, George Halas, Tim Mara, George Preston Marshall, and Bert Bell took an immense risk by investing in the professional game. At that time, the sport barely registered on the national scene. The five owners succeeded only because at critical junctures in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, each sacrificed the short-term success of his team for the longer-term good of the League.

Almost a miracle
Revisado: 03-11-24
That five very different men could continue to be intensely competitive yet have the wisdom and foresight to put league above team is almost a miracle. They could not have known what they were creating. Without their unselfishness this would not have happened. As a Catholic, I was also impressed that three of them were devout Catholics. I am also impressed that the families of those three continue to own those teams today! A very great book!

Father Boyle doesn't write stories about gangs. He writes stories about love, compassion, open mindedness and how a real Christian should live, think and feel. I love this guy! Plus, he reads the book himself! Everyone should read this and his other books!

Historia
The Ignatian goal of "finding God in all things" eans that every part of our lives can lead us to God. The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything shows us how this is possible, with user-friendly examples, humorous stories and anecdotes from the heroic and inspiring lives of Jesuit saints and average priests and brothers, as well as examples from Martin's twenty years as a Jesuit. The traditional wisdom that Jesuits use to help other people in their daily lives is easily applied, but not often explained well to the general public.

Revisado: 02-19-24
As always, Fr. Martin is right on target with his advice, passed on from St. Ignatius of Loyola. It's practical, Jesus based advice that can benefit anyone, not just church going Catholics. I am particularly appreciative that he read it himself.
