Very interesting premise, and Armand Gamache is still as engaging as ever, but the culprits seemed a bit underdeveloped as characters so when it came to their unmasking, the ending didn’t carry the same whodunit punch that Louise Penny typically delivers. Still, a good story, and Robert Bathurst delivers another superb performance as Gamache.

I didn’t really care for Hugh as a hero. Most reviewers who don’t like this story don’t like it because of Lillias, whereas I thought Hugh was condescending and too full of himself, like he was God’s gift to women, and Lillias, “little girl” that she was, should appreciate that “more” about him, Lillias, I could sympathize with, and I thought she was a stronger character than behemoth Hugh. Hugh was just too much of a beast for me, especially at the end when he sends Lillias away because “we don’t love each other”. I did enjoy the epilogue though, and good for Uncle Liam.

I spent 90% of this novel NOT liking Ian Eversea and his treatment of Tansy, such that the last 10%, not matter how elegantly narrated by Justine Eyre or how skilled the prose, could not save this book for me. I doubt it will ever be reread despite the grand gesture at the end. 500 minutes is a long listen without enjoying it for more than the last 25 minutes at the end.

Jonathan and Tommy’s love story, told vividly by Julie Anne Long and narrated perfectly by Justine Eyre. Such a good listen!

Evie and Adam’s poignant love story is one of the best of the Pennyroyal Green series by Julie Anne Long and is expertly narrated by Justine Eyre. It was a joy to listen and savor the telling of it.

Nina Nato does an excellent job narrating this historical romance by Amalie Howard, which is both poignant and steamy. It is a well-written novel, and I really enjoyed it. Plus, it is always great when the heroine rescues the hero! Lady Astrid Everleigh and Thane (Nathaniel) Harte, scarred, reclusive Duke of Beswick are well-matched as the main characters falling in love, and the secondary, supporting characters are enjoyable too - including Fletcher, Culbert and Aunt Mabel, Lady Verne.
