"because of my cheat skills"
Revisado: 11-13-23
i like the story, pacing, and characters but please for the love of God, make the audiobooks abridged with all of the "because of my cheat skills" removed.

Ryker Hayes is a licensed massage therapist, and a damn good one at that. It's a career he's passionate about, and all his plans for life are on track—until he winds up transported to the world of Werifesteria in the body of an infamous warlord, at least. if you like exposition dumps
Revisado: 01-02-23
then this story is for you. i don't really need 30+ min of exposition regarding a war in the second chapter.
/sigh

hungry for more
Revisado: 11-13-22
for the genre it is slow paced but it feels much more natural than the majority of others. for starters there's only one female protag (more to come in later books I hear). I could have had it go even slower but that's just me wanting a romance book geared toward men (not a fantasy that becomes a harem).
the narrator does a great job but I read online somewhere the next book will have a different one.
I guess I'll stop rambling, give it a try

Historia
It was just another sunny day at the coast when a life was changed forever. What started as a prank for a young girl resulted in the elevation of a crab's existence. Now, wrenched from its happy life at the beach, the crab...HAS AWAKENED. Sir Crabby finds himself thrust into sapience. Into a world filled with creatures both mundane and magical, a world where evil lurks beneath the waves. Join Sir Crabby as he travels beneath the ocean, discovering power, adventuring forth and searching for his young friend as he's thrust into the Eternal Conflict of Arthos.

won't age well
Revisado: 11-12-22
got about 3/4 through and had to quit. about 1/4-1/3 of the story is topical references from the 2000s.
I love the concept of a freshly sapient creature experiencing the world and going through simple trials like it's the most important thing in the world. I liked the gods reactions and how the adventure is basically a popcorn flick to them, cheering the little crab on.
that said, not everything has to be an already out of date reference... the audiobook came out this month and it's already so dated I couldn't listen to it while trucking. I effectively had a captain America moment of "I understood that reference" throughout the entire book

Historia
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

good with qualifiers
Revisado: 09-20-22
Review having listened to this series to date (7 books in total):
The Good:
Magic mechanics is fresh with their implementation and and make me want to theorycraft about possible combinations and situational advantages/disadvantages. probably the best part of the series to be honest. The worldbuilding is good with the implementation of how a society might face their unique circumstances. The character interactions are often natural (see qualifier below) and enjoyable.
The Neutral:
The plot and how it progresses is fairly average, nothing groundbreaking if you've had a good-competent D&D group.
The Qualifier:
The author appears to be a devout Athiest and just has to let you know about it. the first hour or two of this first book is very bad with self insert rants about religion. anything to do with earth politics reads/listens like the Jason going out of character and the author soap boxing. in later books this extends to side or one off characters. it's particularly jarring at times and breaks immersion.
I'd liken it to playing a great D&D campaign with that one guy who often tries to betray the party because it's "in character"
if you can get past the qualifier or ignore it the rest is pretty good.
