If Philip Marlowe were a futuristic robot... naah. Not really. Noir for sure. But a bit too heavy on the Sci Fi to really work as I expected. Still an enjoyable oddity and a fine narration made this a good time killer listen.

Hardcore SciFi I was expecting, but not the lack of enjoyment. The snarky irreverent humor is there (to a lesser degree), as is the terrific narration. To bad the story leaves me cold. Actually pretty dull at times. Too bad, since i LOVED the first three Bobiverse books.

The book: A new interesting angle to the "Hayden Syndrome" theme. Likable main characters. A bit of a whodunnit mystery and lots of action. In short - I liked the book. Also the "he said / she said" writing that marred "Lock In" is absent here. Better writing or perhaps better editing made it a smooth listen.

The narration: As with the first book I very much preferred Amber Benson's narration over Will Wheaton's speedreading performance. In particular Benson has the ability to make conversations sound natural, with short natural pauses when appropriate. Not so Wheaton. There's a reason that Benson's narration clocks in at 8 hrs 52 mins as opposed to Wheaton's speedy 7 hrs 36 mins.

Benson's ability to create different voices for characters may not be perfect but it's way better than Wheaton's. At least she tries... If a third "Lock In Series" book should appear I'll buy it - but only if Amber Benson is narrating!

Ok, not too much is new regarding relationships. Turov is more likable, Winslade is virtually absent (thankfully) and the Claver angle is starting to be REALLY interesting, but otherwise not much changes. However I sense developments to come may be interesting.

The storm world "salamanders" and their tech is interesting, Action and mayhem galore as usual.

Fantastic narration from Mark Boyett. He manages to give not only individual voices to the humans, but also separate and interesting accents to all the different aliens as well. Great stuff!

Will absolutely continue to follow this series.

First off: If you're following the Jane Yellowrock series as well and haven't yet read "Dark Queen", be aware that this book contains some spoilers for "Dark Queen". I recommend that you read that first (It's great...).

So what about Circle of the Moon? More of the same, which in this case is a good thing. Evolving characters, multiple storylines, some surprises and a good flow to the story makes for a good listen. I particularly like that Nell's darker (blood hunger) side is allowed to show.

Khristine Hvam - Masterful narration as usual.

An incredibly curious man. A key phrase he made was "I have to understand the world you see". A fun and interesting listen, even if a lot of the math and science were way over my head. The things that stood out were his ability to take big bites out of life and try new and odd experiences just to know what they were like. Most of the book was very fun to listen to.

A bit "off" was his assurances that he didn't do drugs since he was "afraid of damaging his ability to think". He then quite casually talked about using marijuana and Ketamine, to induce and enhance hallucinations in his sensory deprivation tank experiments.

Narration was very good.

A fun caricature portraying Babe Ruth like a young Forrest Gump'ish naive baseball prodigy. Didn't take it seriously as I'm not American and know next to nothing about Babe Ruth. Thus I was not bothered by the probable lack of truth in the telling. So - I liked it.

The good:
A cleverly constructed story with the reporter angle in the center.
Plenty of action, tension and guesswork.
OK narration.

The bad:
Stupid use of a stupid story/suspense trope. In a Darwinistic sense the protagonist would have been dead, dead, dead.

I'll probably give the series another go. I liked the reporter part of the story.

A wonderful listen. Keiko Furukara IS a Convenience Store Woman. So much so that a comment about her being "normal" made her think "...it felt like he'd downgraded me from store worker to female of the human species". Pure magic. I loved this short book. A little sad but immensely uplifting at the same time. When / if you find your place in life - don't change just because of the pressure of society's holy grail - conformity.

Narration as well - pure magic.

It's not often I've finished a book this emotionally drained. The final hour of listening really took it out of me.
So what of the 16 hours before that? FINALLY the "eurovamps" shows up. And a vile and conniving lot they are... Other new and interesting characters and developments are introduced as well, even though this may well be an end to the series. If it is - thank you Faith Hunter! And thank you Khristine Hvam.
