Historia
With years of hard work, I've made the Rainbow Dorset University Unicorns football team the pride of the state. My reputation speaks for itself, so the school stays out of my way, and that's how I like it. If they can't handle my sparkle, they have no business in my shine. Now, there's someone new on campus—a washed-up hockey player hired to whip the team into shape. The school had the audacity to cut my budget to pay him!

Yawn
Revisado: 04-06-25
I have listened to almost all of this authors books and liked all of them, with the exception of this one. I think I disliked it so much because one MC is SO unlikeable. The reasons he is the way he is are not revealed until too late in the book, and by then it's, honestly, too little too late. The other MC is the human equivalent of beige curtains, he's so devoid of any tangible personality. I truly couldn't have cared any less about either of the MCs. I finished it, but honestly wish I hadn't wasted a credit on it.

A virus that turns the infected into zombie-like killers spreads through a burning world thrown into lawless chaos. Lovers Parker and Adam have escaped to the open sea when they hear a message over the airwaves from a place called Salvation Island - a supposed safe haven. Orphaned as a child, werewolf Adam has always longed for a pack. He's eager to investigate the island, but Parker doesn't think for a nanosecond that the voice on the radio can be believed.

I wish there were more like this.
Revisado: 02-14-23
I don't typically leave reviews for the books I read, but I felt very compelled to review this one and the previous in the series. I really wish there were more books like this in the LGBT realm. While Parker and Adam are gay and get up to some hot antics, that's not the focus of the book series. I felt the visceral fears and stress of the characters throughout the series and became thoroughly invested in their and their companions' story. Tristan James was fantastic for this series, as neither of the main characters came off as helpless, as could have easily been the case.
Love me a post-apocalyptic hell scape and having a fantastic love story to boot?! I thought it was excellent.

Just so boring.
Revisado: 03-08-21
I don't really know what to say, other than I was utterly bored by this book. I don't necessarily think it was the narrator, as I'm a total sucker for british accents.
The chemistry between the protagonists felt forced. I honestly cannot tell you anything about the plot. I didn't even finish the book because I just didn't care about either character and the story just wasn't compelling or gripping.
I was only continuing to listen because I felt some sort of obligation, but once I started to question myself about what had happened so far and couldn't give myself any satisfying answer I had to stop.

I was not ready to ugly cry.
Revisado: 07-15-20
It's been a while since I've read a book that made my heart swell as much as this did. We begin by meeting Linus Baker, a governmental drone going about his life and doing what he need to do, but we realize he wants more out of his life than what he has. A mysterious assignment sends him away from his routine and changes his life, and by extension starts to change the rest of his world.
I decided to read this book on a "hey I have some free credits" lark. I saw the comparisons made about it being 1984 meets The Umbrella Academy, but I don't necessarily think that's a fair comparison. There is no big bad villain to be defeated, unless you count systemic bigotry. T.J. Klune's writing focuses so much on character, each central character you encounter is so 3 dimensional and flushed out, you feel as if you know or have known these people. At the heart of this entrie book is the search for home, love, community & most importantly (to me) a sense of belonging and acceptance.
I've already suggested this book to anyone who will listen to me and still that doesn't feel like enough, so I felt compelled to write this review.
