Historia
The year 1934. Kitty Underhay steps out of the battered Rolls Royce and onto the graveled driveway of Thurscomb Castle in deepest Yorkshire. She’s honored to be a bridesmaid at her cousin Lucy’s wedding to the reluctant Lord Rupert Woodcomb, but as family and friends gather for welcome drinks, Kitty dodges intrusive questions about her own marital status by taking a stroll about the castle grounds. As she passes through the manicured gardens, a fatal shot rings out....

Disappointed with new narrator
Revisado: 03-27-25
Kitty is now cold and pretentious rather than warm and funny. Narrator doesn’t make any pauses between speakers or sentences.

The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.

Fantastic reader

This reader has amazing breadth in her ability to portray characters with appropriate voices. Speech is clear, warm, and nicely inflected. A great book and a great reader!

With his trademark mirth and boundless charisma, actor Nick Offerman brought the loveable shenanigans of Twain's adolescent hero to life in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Now, in yet another virtuosic performance, the actor proves that despite being separated by a span of over a century, his connection to the author and his work is undeniable and that theirs is a timeless collaboration that should not be missed.

Very nice reading.
Revisado: 11-13-24
At first the voice seems a bit too crisp and midelwestern, but as the story progresses it is perfect. The voice is that of the time traveler who was not originally from CT.
So the voice was perfect.
An excellent novel and an excellent narration.

Great book
Revisado: 06-09-24
Excellent voice but amateur recording. I heard children, a cat, birds, and other background noises. The title repeated at the beginning of each chapter was annoying. Great voice though and a wonderful book.

Historia
Probably the most shocking of the Brontës' novels, this novel had an instant and phenomenal success and is widely considered to be one of the first sustained feminist novels. A mysterious widow, Mrs. Helen Graham, arrives at Wildfell Hall, a nearby old mansion. A source of curiosity for the small community, the reticent Helen and her young son Arthur are slowly drawn into the social circles of the village.

Poor reader; great story
Revisado: 05-13-20
If you care about language, then this is a painful rendition. I lost count of the grossly mispronounced words. Eg scions as sky-ons, paroxysms as perry-oxisms, etc. the story is well worth hearing but the reader also makes no attempt to change voices for different characters. Very disappointed.

Excellent novel; disappointing reader
Revisado: 11-09-19
I found that playing this recording at 1.25 speed improved it. Perhaps I am a language snob but I really do think that someone reading this novel with frequent passages in French and German should get some coaching on how to pronounce those languages. That, along with mispronunciations of English words too distracted from the story. Altogether a disappointing reader of a fantastic novel.
