Historia
In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a Black African father and a White American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a Black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father - a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man - has been killed in a car accident. This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey - first to a small town in Kansas, and then to Kenya....

l loved this book. It was an electrifying read. It was so poised, and through provoking. Listening to Barack Obama's words brought words and stories brought the images to life. At time it felt like I was there. I was able to envision his historical experience and those of his family as well. In my opinion this is an amazing book. It inspired hope, love, and resiliency. I recommend this book for all young boys. I think this book should be a requured read in schools in the U.S. as early as 5th grade. The audio version should be played and each child should have a paperback book to follow along. Before leaving high school I believe that every youth should have read Dreams from my father: A story of race and inheritance.

Historia
There are, in the United States, a significant and growing number of families who live on less than $2.00 per person, per day. That figure, the World Bank measure of poverty, is hard to imagine in this country - most of us spend more than that before we get to work or school in the morning.

Must Read

This is a great book. It provides good insight into how the most oppressed and vulnerable individuals in our society try to survive. This book gives an account of how government systems continue to make laws that oppress the poor and how messages of ignorance continue to stigmatize those most in need.
