Historia
My name is Gemma Keyes. Other than my name, I am utterly forgettable - so those who never paid much attention to me in the first place haven't exactly noticed that I've disappeared. Vanished. Oh, it's much more complicated than it sounds. And let me tell you, invisibility comes with its own set of problems.

Fascinating and Creative
Revisado: 12-09-16
I immediately bought the second book and can't wait to read it. The author wrote a truly unique story with interesting characters - good and evil - and kept the entire complex story together without dropping any of the threads. This is very different from the other books I have read by this author, and I wasn't sure I would enjoy it. It's been years since I read science fiction - and I LOVED it!!

Historia
From the blood-soaked sand of the Roman arena, a divine destiny will rise. For as long as Jonathan Tarquinius can remember, everyone has wanted something from him. His half-brother wants him dead. His master's wife wants his innocence. The gladiator dealers want him to fight - and die - for their greed. Rome's most famous prostitute wants his love. And the gentle slave girl who tends the wounds on his body and the hidden ones on his soul, longs for him to return to his faith.

One of the best audiobooks I have heard
Revisado: 02-15-15
This is a fascinating story, and the reader is one of the best I have ever heard. He gives depth and identity to each character and is good with male and female voices.
The Christianity in this story can never be a secondary theme. This book was set in 35AD, when Christianity was serious business. There were still living witnesses of His work. It is an urgent undercurrent to any story set in Rome at that time. This book dealt frankly with the situation, neither too shallow or too dramatic.
The romance was developed gradually and naturally. Again, faith played a pivotal role in relationships. The scene in which the heroine begged Jonathan to repent would seem silly in a modern novel, but it's very appropriate for the time and setting of this book. Their beliefs were intense.
The violence and gore was overwhelming at times, but it was appropriate to the book, as were the mentions of orgies and minor descriptions of sexual behaviors. It was a rough period of history!
The plot moved along steadily, with good pacing from one crisis to another. The dialogue was natural.
This was a long audiobook - 15 hours! - but definitely worth listening to.
