Historia
The world-renowned philosopher and author of the best-selling Justice explores the central question of our time: What has become of the common good? World-renowned philosopher Michael J. Sandel argues that to overcome the crises that are upending our world, we must rethink the attitudes toward success and failure that have accompanied globalization and rising inequality. Sandel shows the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgment it imposes on those left behind, and traces the dire consequences across a wide swath of American life.

An interesting but very academic critique
Revisado: 11-23-22
An interesting but very academic critique on how our merit based structures really exist in name only in the 21st century.

Whether we realize it or not, we all take risks large and small every day. Even the most cautious among us cannot opt out - the question is always which risks to take, not whether to take them at all. What most of us don't know is how to measure those risks and maximize the chances of getting what we want out of life. In An Economist Walks into a Brothel, Schrager equips listeners with five principles for dealing with risk, principles used by some of the world's most interesting risk takers.

Good not Great
Revisado: 06-23-19
I heard the author interviewed on NPR. The opening portion is interesting but the subsequent stories just get progressively dull. I really wanted to like this book but by the time it gets to the end, the battle of 38 easting and I just didn't care.

Underwhelming
Revisado: 02-12-18
Will die a great job of narrating an otherwise self referential YA sci fi novel. it just feels so cookie cutter. i really wanted to be blown away after how highly recommended this was, but i feel let down.

much more than an audiobook,
Revisado: 01-29-18
this recording allows you to hear Martin Luther King in his own words in from the people who knew him best and who were there. the quality of the recording and the first two speeches is poor and can be very difficult to understand at times. the rest of the book is excellent end hearing how he developed his speeches and begin to understand which words resonated with his audience and encouraged them to resist is fascinating.

Historia
The secret behind France's astonishingly well-behaved children is here. When American journalist Pamela Druckerman has a baby in Paris, she doesn't aspire to become a "French parent". French parenting isn't a known thing, like French fashion or French cheese. Even French parents themselves insist they aren't doing anything special. But French children are far better behaved and more in command of themselves than American kids....

Great content, bad accents
Revisado: 09-07-17
The content of the book is incitefull and engaging. I grew up with A French mom and there are many Ahah moments. That said, the French accents get to be tiring, and even irritating at points.

Historia
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong. Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right.

Well structured but a slow start
Revisado: 09-05-17
The first part was a slog but the last 2/3 really did an excellent job of shaping the liberal vs conservative framework for viewing the world. this book has helped me be more patient with old friends who have views that felt 180 degrees or from mine.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Interesting not Fascinating
Revisado: 03-30-17
an interesting look at you're atypical American Star. Trevor Noah give you a first person view of growing up in pre and post apartheid South Africa. however, it feels a bit repetitive at times and to be honest he's a young man so it feels a little like he spends 3/4 of the book and his childhood and rushes through his brief adulthood. if nothing else, he's an excellent storyteller though some of these stories are stronger than others.
