Just saved the best for last

This was my favorite book of the series. I loved the HEA, even though I guessed the outcome early on, and even shed a tear or two. I wish there were 11 more All-Blacks books to enjoy. Great narration for the whole series.

I had no idea what to expect when the producers of Dr. Hoffman sent me to the pristine white mountains of Aspen, Colorado. As the town of Aspen is known for being a winter haven for uber-rich Americans, I knew this desert cactus was going to be way out of her element. The ace up my sleeve however, was a high-class movie-making surfer whose family owned a cabin in those snowy hills. With him by my side, I'd make the most out of the experience.

HEAs for all

I struggled to finish this series - although the premise was fun, and the characters had potential, the whole thing was entirely implausible! Every book got a little more ridiculous. The characters became less mature and less interesting, but I did enjoy the epilogue, and it was nice to hear about characters from earlier in the series and their HEAs, especially with Zachary Webber as narrator.

Heavy on religion

Not a bad story, and, unfortunately the LDS church position on homosexuality and gay marriage are real issues for many families - but the religious aspects of this novel are not just incidental to the story. It wasn’t a “light” read, even with an unlikely HEA.

The story was predictable - which isn’t a horrible problem - there’s a reason people like the same old thing. Mr. Everett’s voice, however, was a huge problem for me. Instead of hearing a tough hockey “player” I heard an very young, immature voice that didn’t fit the character at all. Might work in another setting but was jarring for this book.

Vocabulary lesson?

I’m not sensitive about crude language, but I do like a little variety of vocabulary. I think f**k, and various conjugations of the same, were the most-used word in the book. The characters had potential, as did the story, but repetitive and crude language detracted from the characters themselves. I don’t plan to continue the series.
