A reluctant military hero, Flashman plays a key part in most of the defining military campaigns of the nineteenth century despite trying his utmost to escape them all. Historia
In volume II of The Flashman Papers, Flashman tangles with femme fatale Lola Montez and the dastardly Otto Von Bismarck in a battle of wits which will decide the destiny of a continent.
In this volume of The Flashman Papers, Flashman, the arch-cad and toady, matches his wits, his talents for deceit and malice, and above all his speed in evasion against the most brilliant European statesman and against the most beautiful and unscrupulous adventuress of the era.

Historia
In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

One of the Significant Novels of Mankind
Revisado: 03-16-23
I was going to write: One of the most significant novels of our time, but then again, it was published in 66 years ago in 1957.
As relevant today, as it was then, Atlas Shrugged is a refreshing answer to communism, socialism, collectivism or any other form of involuntary government that hampers the entrepreneurial spirit.
Expertly told by Scott Brick.
Am looking forward to listening to it again next year. And every year after that.

Amazing when applied ruthlessly!
Revisado: 03-21-21
This has been a powerful game changer for me.
Is it simple - Yes!
Is it self-evident - Evidently!
Its power lies in how it shows you how to simply make those changes.
When you ruthlessly apply these four rules, and consistently hold yourself accountable, then it is:
a) Tough, and
b) Highly effective
Once you apply those standards consistently to yourself, your life will necessarily change significantly.
Contracts
The section that describes how everything in life is contract-based made it very easy for me as a visual person to tear up old agreements and write new ones.
To the ones who are ready to make big changes in their life in a simple way: A massively powerful book.
I keep re-reading it to hold myself accountable.
Enjoy!

Breath of Fresh Air
Revisado: 08-28-20
After a series of somewhat shallow books developing mostly known characters and little in terms of overall story development, at last the author gave us a breath of fresh air!
A new world, fresh characters and a vibrant story come together in a refreshing new book.
All masterfully told and brought to life by Peter Joyce.

Good Story, but does not reach the Greatness of the Riftwar Saga
Revisado: 08-22-20
This is a good story, expanding on the stories of the Conclave of Shadows. But I keep hoping for the greatness of the Riftwar Saga to return. There is just not the same sense of complexity and adventure as there was in the beginning, and the characters lack depth and colour.
Still, a good listen.
Masterfully told by Peter Joyce! Always an amazing performance.

Another beautiful Feist Novel
Revisado: 04-19-20
I really enjoyed this addition to the Riftwar Saga. While not as monumental and epic as the initial three books, I love the characters, their wicked sense of humour, and the most exotic and beautifully drawn Palace of Intrigues that is the Royal Court of Kesh, full of ruses, betrayal, political maneuvering.
I love Peter Joyce’s narration, and how he gives each character their own unique personality, their own voice, and instils a sense of warmth and humour into the story.
I am really looking forward to listening to the second volume of this book.

Historia
Dirk Struan rose from humble beginnings to build Struan & Company, also known as the Noble House, into the world’s largest Far East trading company. He is now the Tai-Pan—Supreme Leader—of all Tai-Pans in China. Along the way, however, he made a powerful enemy. Tyler Brock, Struan’s rival from their early opium-smuggling days, also heads a large trading fleet, second in size only to Struan’s. But it is not only silks and spices that drive their mutual companies’ wealth—the opium trade is still booming. War between England and China might be over, but the hostilities remain.

This book gave me a glimpse into a life I had never experienced before. Beautifully drawn characters who enjoy their short-lived hedonistic pleasures.
Great for anyone wanting a spell-binding drug-fuelled Miami-style assault on the senses.
For a five-star rating, I would have liked a much deeper story-line.
Just downloaded book 2, though. Am looking forward to what else Miami has in store for us.

Historia
The celebrated 2010 HBO miniseries The Pacific, winner of eight Emmy Awards, was based on two classic books about the War in the Pacific, Helmet for My Pillow and With The Old Breed. Audible Studios, in partnership with Playtone, the production company co-owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and creator of the award-winning HBO series Band of Brothers, John Adams, and The Pacific, as well as the HBO movie Game Change, has created new recordings of these memoirs, narrated by the stars of the miniseries.

The pure, honest and undiluted Face of War
Revisado: 03-26-17
With the Old Breed has to rank as one of the all-time best war stories. A true and touching account of war, undiluted by false bravado or phony heroics, the story chronicles the author's wartime experience of simple duty, heroism, pain, destruction and ultimate survival in equal measures.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an honest view of war and its real face, much like Remarque's "All quiet on the Western Front".
I am looking forward to listening to it again in a couple of years.
