Historia
John Kennedy Toole - who won a posthumous Pulitzer Prize for his best-selling comic masterpiece A Confederacy of Dunces - wrote The Neon Bible for a literary contest at the age of 16. The manuscript languished in a drawer and became the subject of a legal battle among Toole's heirs. It was only in 1989, 35 years after it was written and 20 years after Toole's suicide at 31, that this amazingly accomplished and evocative novel was freed for publication.

Brilliant
Revisado: 05-24-19
I had purchased, heard, and loved John Kennedy Toole's A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES on Audible, so when I saw that his other book was available, I immediately purchased it. The narrator is absolutely perfect, with his Southern accent and perfect imitation of both male and female characters. His inflections are perfect, too, as well as the overall pace of the reading. As a child of the South, born in Biloxi, and doomed to suffer as a spiritual seeker in the Bible belt, I appreciate this story so much for so many reasons. Thank you, John Kennedy Toole, wherever you are, you perfect writer.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Revisado: 12-09-17
Mark Manson takes you places that you might not want to go, but you need to. if you are afraid of heights, challenge yourself; you will be glad you did . Upon finishing the book, I felt both validation and questioned, both good things when taking responsibility for one's own self. Roger Wayne's narration is flawless, just the book. A winning combination.

Enlightening
Revisado: 04-12-17
If you could sum up The Dead Sea Scrolls in three words, what would they be?
If I were to sum up The DEAD SEA SCROLLS in three words, I would have to say: "ground-breaking, mind-illuminating, and PRICELESS."
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dead Sea Scrolls?
One of the most memorable moments of this series was the relating of the references of the name of Peter to both ROCKS and MUSHROOMS. Indeed, it was quite funny.
What does Professor Gary A. Rendsburg bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
If I had not had access to Prof. Rendsburg's information, I never would have realized the amount of energy and passion that went into the careful translation of The Scrolls. I have much more appreciation for that now.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The overall tone of the lectures conveys the sense of grand spiritual energy in these scrolls. The importance of the discovery and of the translation take precedence.
Any additional comments?
Information about all the details surrounding the carbon dating of the scrolls and investigation into the situation around what could have been a fortress or even a country estate come into mind; had I not purchased this Audible book, I would have missed this. This is one of my most important purchases ever.

Historia
Rabbit, Run is the book that established John Updike as one of the major American novelists of his - or any other - generation. Its hero is Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom, a onetime high-school basketball star who on an impulse deserts his wife and son. He is 26 years old, a man-child caught in a struggle between instinct and thought, self and society, sexual gratification and family duty - even, in a sense, human hard-heartedness, and divine Grace. Though his flight from home traces a zigzag of evasion, he holds to the faith that he is on the right path.

Classic story
Revisado: 10-23-16
Rabbit, while being one of my most-hated characters of all time, is a character that sheds lights on the motivation of the American male population. I have known many "Rabbits," and they turn my stomach, and yet, the counselor in me craves more, the sequel to this story, to understand even more fully. the narrative mispronounces "Lancaster, " but I forgive him, as he is obviously not a Pennsylvania native.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Railroad to sheer entertainment!
Revisado: 11-12-14
What did you love best about Railroad!: Volume 1?
I love Railroad because (1) the character introductions and development are so detailed, (2) the imagery and symbolism of each setting are so poignant, and (3) the ethereal AND human characteristics of the characters pop out so freely and flowingly that it's a joy to read and listen to! The settings are unique and the story line kept me wondering what would happen next!
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character is actually the hero of the story, Rodger Dodger, who lives in a time past and who must decide whether to become a part of the craziness that follows! His past is destined to catch up with him as he keeps a big part of it secret from his new employer.
Which scene was your favorite?
There is no "one" favorite scene, but the dry humor of Professor Hieronymus J. Dittmeyer as he speaks to one of his creations cracks me up.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"Take this train to never-ending entertainment!"
Any additional comments?
I love audiobooks best because of a worsening vision problem, so the narrators are very important to me. Both of the narrators in this book are very good, very clear, and energetic. JoBe Cerny is a joy to listen to, and so is Julia Farmer!
