Historia
In 12 Rules for Life, clinical psychologist and celebrated professor at Harvard and the University of Toronto Dr. Jordan B. Peterson helped millions impose order on the chaos of their lives. Now, in this bold sequel, Peterson delivers 12 more lifesaving principles for resisting the exhausting toll that our desire to order the world inevitably takes. In a time when the human will increasingly imposes itself over every sphere of life - from our social structures to our emotional states - Peterson warns that too much security is dangerous.

An Almost Overwhelming Set of Powerful Lessons...

Peterson's ability to weave psychology, metaphysics, philosophy, and religious teaching is awe-inspiring. I learned. I agreed. I disagreed. I found applicable, actionable lessons. I found ideas for later study. I view previously held beliefs and disbeliefs in a new light. Fantastic book.

It is a scientific fact, which means we can measure it, we can assess it, and we can devise strategies to make ourselves happy and fulfilled human beings. Or so says, Professor Gad Saad, author of the national bestseller The Parasitic Mind and popular host of The Saad Truth podcast. Professor Saad roams through the scientific studies, the wisdom of ancient philosophy and religion, and his extraordinary personal experience as a refugee from war-torn Lebanon turned academic celebrity to provide one of the most provocative, helpful, and entertaining listens you are likely to encounter.

As per normal, Professor Saad's insights are well-considered and well-delivered. However, this book was not nearly as eye-opening as The Parasitic Mind.

Historia
Follow the Science recounts, in exacting detail, how far the pharmaceutical industry and its supporters in medicine, media, and government will go to protect their profits. Attkisson provides shocking examples that reveal the disturbing callousness our government, public health officials, and top researchers are capable of when it comes to the most vulnerable among us. And she explains, in a graphic sense, how some of the most trusted within our society are willing to commit life-threatening ethics violations.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Detailed, Thorough, and Scary...
Revisado: 09-04-24
As a person who has seldom battled with insomnia, but almost always battled with the personal demon of going to bed "on time" this book was a revelation. It was also a warning. On an intellectual level almost everyone knows they should prioritize sleep. This despite the US, type A, high-achiever mythos. In my case, I knew better yet STILL consistently worshipped late night. While I make no promises, although maybe I should, the information presented, much of it stark and startling, has left me hopeful. Calling Ben Franklin!

Historia
When published in 1981, The Mismeasure of Man was immediately hailed as a masterwork, the ringing answer to those who would classify people, rank them according to their supposed genetic gifts and limits. Yet the idea of of biology as destiny dies hard, as witness the attention devoted to The Bell Curve, whose arguments are here so effectively anticipated and thoroughly undermined.

Fascinating and Troubling...
Revisado: 07-26-24
In general, and as expected, this was breathtaking in both depth of analysis and relevance to the on-going social conditions of society. As an almost one-stop-shop for the pointed analysis of racialist arguments, such as the bovine feces in books like, "The Bell Curve" it is wonderful.
On the other hand, Dr. Gould seemed, at times, to find no historic figure unworthy of snide criticism. His (somewhat) backhanded attacks on folks like Aristotle seemed a bit overdone. Similarly, his derision of Founding Fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson, struck me as a bit catty. Were mistakes made by both? Sure! Their racism, particularly given their environments, seems almost unworthy of placing in the same category as "thinkers" like Shockley or the authors of "The Bell Curve." Despite mentioning this, it remains a minor criticism of a major piece of thought-provoking literature.
Highly recommended, without reservation!

Public schools are indoctrinating a generation of children to see themselves as either victims of systemic racial oppression or members of a wicked oppressor class. Leonydus Johnson, a black writer and podcaster, exposes the poisonous ideology embedded in "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" programs. We must teach our children the truth that their identity comes not from their race but from Christ.

Spectacular Narration of a Thought-Provoking Book...
Revisado: 05-18-24
The arguments Johnson makes are ones with which I am quite familiar, and with which I wholeheartedly agree. What makes this book helpful, however, is the plain manner the points are made. The examples are relevant. The history is educational. The logic is solid. Ergo, the conclusions are (almost) unarguable. I say "almost" because Marxism is a philosophy that refuses to die the horrible death it deserves. Instead, it maintains a religious following who will argue, despite facts.

A Legitimate Tour de Force in Realm of Longevity
Revisado: 07-06-23
I loved this book, which is not surprising, given my following of and respect for Dr. Attia. It is hard to know where to begin in terms of the fantastic portions. So, I will offer two (2) large criticisms. One, Peter is much too easy on seed oils and their negative effects on health. They are basically poison and should be characterized as such. Two, Peter promotes pharmaceutical interventions, such as statins, far too enthusiastically. These are not, from my standpoint, small errors or minor disagreements. Despite them, I would still classify the book as magnificent. That's how good the rest of the information is! Kudos!

Historia
There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Could Call It Breathtaking but That Might Be...
Revisado: 03-25-23
Having been a student of people like Wim Hof and others, I expected this book to be good. I was mistaken. It is, in absolute fact, exceptional. The science borders on scary. The history is equal parts mind-boggling, thrilling, and inspirational. Before I sink even deeper into over-the-top praise, let me end with this. Everyone you know needs to read this book. Enjoy!
