This was ruined by the narrator, what a shame!
Revisado: 06-27-21
There are four books in this series and I don't know why, but books two and three had a different narrator than the first book. The narrator for the first book and book four was excellent, so, imagine how ripped off you feel when you buy the whole series expecting good quality narration and you can tell this narrator is inexperienced.
I really like Kristi Ann Hunter's style of writing. She's a talented author and has a great sense of humor, and in book one, I was really enjoying the first narrator's delivery of some funny lines. Then, I get to THIS book and she could not deliver a funny line. She over pronounces her words and doesn't seem to know how to deal with punctuation. A sentence would end (with a period, of course) but she would blow right through it without stopping. It's infuriating. And Audible won't let me return this one, which is even more infuriating.
Just beware that if you liked the first book, this one and the third one in the series are just awful. I got through them only because I really wanted to see what happened with each sibling, as there are 4 of them and each book concentrated on one of the four. I couldn't wait to get to the fourth book in the series where Kristi goes back to the original narrator in book one.
It really is a shame, Kristi Ann Hunter should just pay for a good narrator and keep her audio books consistent.
It would make us, who pay good money for credits a whole lot happier. Now, I feel like I can't trust her with her series in the future if there is a change of narrators.

Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

To think the unthinkable.
Revisado: 01-10-19
As a veteran I was stunned by the realistic and horrifying truth in this book. I have been very aware of the possibility of a EMP attack, as a weapons specialist I have known for decades the threat of such a terrorist event. However I thought that our nation had been "hardening" our grid, but according to the author of this book our leaders are blowing smoke. One of the two are lying and given the people that occupy our government, my gut says get prepared for help could be a long way off. I have read other books on this subject and this one seems to capture the depth and scope of what one could only compare to a biblical scale event. Apparently the author has done his homework and I would consider this book to be a warning to all the people in a normalcy bias as in a belief people hold when facing a disaster. It causes people to underestimate both the likelihood of a disaster and its possible effects, because people believe that things will always function the way things normally have functioned. Very well written and same for the narrator five stars all around!!!

Entertaining listening and narration
Revisado: 07-30-18
I'm a fan of fantasy books, and usually use my credits on the names I am familiar with but the summary of the book and the audio sample hooked me, so I started on the journey with Sam and Jake with book 1 in this series and have been really surprised at how good the story and narration is,
From the beginning in book 1 (Whipeye), through book 2 (Gorgon) and now, book 3, which is my favorite, I find myself listening every chance I get, especially after work and instead of watching TV, I got hooked on the series.
The author has created such interesting personalities with the animals in Kiraku as well as the humans in our world.
In book 1, two ordinary teenagers find themselves in an alternative world, full of beauty, sweet air and healing water. The kids run for their lives in book one, but they are helped out by friends who give them recourses that help give them power to fight the forces of evil. By the time you get to Drasine, Sam and Jake are no longer scared teenagers. They are ready for whatever comes their way, and they fight the good fight. Not like superheroes, but more like warriors. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this series is, especially this 3rd book, Drasine, It deserves 5 stars. Love the narrator by the way.

5 stars for Gorgon
Revisado: 07-30-18
I've listened to the first two books in this series and really enjoyed both of them. I think I like Gorgon a little better, but it is a toss up. Both books are great. The third book has been released and I'm looking forward to listening to that soon.
Geoffrey Saign is a really good writer. This series is the first time I have heard of him and I highly recommend Fantasy fans to check it out.
There is a lot of adventure going on and I never felt like there was a dull moment. The characters are unique and fun. The narrator is great and the voices are unique too.
I'm looking forward to the adventures of Sam and Jake and hope there will be more books in the series.

Masterfully Written and Narrated!
Revisado: 07-21-18
I don't normally listen to books in this genre, but it came highly recommended, so I got the book, listened to it, and was so pleasantly surprised!
Sixteen year old Samantha Green and 17 year old Jake Morris battle between two worlds in a masterfully written tale of good and evil.
Just as I thought the evil monsters couldn't get any worse, they did. And, just when I thought Samantha and Jake were doomed, their friends from Kiraku helped them fight the evil Magnar and his minions.
Geoffrey Saign is a new favorite writer for me. I will be watching for more of his books in the future. One thing I found I really liked throughout all of the tension, running and fighting for their lives, was the humor Saign peppered throughout the book.
It was a thrill a minute and I look forward to the sequels, as I see there are more books to be released in this series.
Lauren Holladay's narration was perfect. I always knew who was talking and she can do male voices very well.
I wish I could give this 10 stars! Highly recommended!

I got this book for my wife and we both listened to it in the car on a long drive. We both really enjoyed the story. I liked the Western genre and my wife really liked the budding relationship between Grace and Mitch. Overall, a well written and sweet book. The narrator, Lauren Holladay, was outstanding.

Good book, but narrator is irritating
Revisado: 01-21-18
As a fan of John Thornton's books, I appreciate his gift of writing. But he (or whoever chooses narrators), should really give some serious thought as to who narrates his books. It was painful getting through books one and two.
THEN..."Eureka!"... just as I was about to give up on the series, I listened to book 3 and this beautiful, professional actress stole my heart! I was so happy that Thornton finally found a great narrator. After I finished book 3, I was equally thrilled to hear the same narrator on book four. But, alas, for whatever reason, Lauren Holladay, the narrator disappeared from the rest of the books after book 4. If the narrators are grating on your nerves, stay with it at least through book 4. I'm ditching the series after that unless he gets some decent talent to narrate his books.
What a pity.

Bring Lauren Holladay back as narrator!
Revisado: 01-21-18
I am a huge fan of John Thornton's books, but this is the last one I am going to waste my money on, not because the story isn't good. The narrator's are terrible! I've listened to all of the books in this series up to this one and, with the exception of Lauren Holladay (books three and four), the readers sound amateurish, there is noise in the audio and sentences repeated. I would suggest that the publishers find performers who are actual professionals. As much as I like Mr. Thornton's work, he has lost me because of his narrators. I'm a member of a Sci Fi audio book group (we suggest good Sci Fi to read or listen to). I will be warning them not to waste their money or credit on this series unless it's only for book 3 or 4... which won't make much sense if they don't hear the whole series. It's important for people listening with ear buds that there isn't crackling noise and irritating voices.
It's a shame that such a good writer doesn't seem to care what his audio books sound like.
