Historia
On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

I like stories w/ endings ... this didn't have one
Revisado: 06-12-21
This is a very highly regarded sci-fi title. Award winning, in fact. It is one of the reasons I went for it. I want to spend what time I have reading / listening to great stuff. Once in a while I find that high minded critics get a little too high minded and rate material highly precisely because it makes little sense or has no ending. In my opinion, this is such a case.
I liked the story. I was into the characters. There are elements of mystery, thriller and action that are compelling.
As for the performance, I enjoyed it mostly. Some of the narrators were better than others. Some people enjoy when different narrators do specific points of view. I tend to like it also, when done well. This was done well enough. I rated it at 4 stars for "It's great." Might be 3.5, but the performance should not keep anyone away from a purchase - I liked it.
It is the ending. At the end of the book, he left me with more questions than answers. Mysteries unsolved. Resolution, not had. Deeply unsatisfying to me. (By the way this is the same style of ending in the award winning book, "The Giver" by Lois Lowry). I actually did an internet search to see if I was missing something (same with "The Giver"). I was not missing anything. That is the non-ending. Others had the same experience.
It may be for you. It is not for me.

It’s a hard read due to the subject matter, but absolutely worth it. The story is moving. There is a reason this book is considered among the motivating factors in bringing about the Civil War.
The performance is top notch. Everyone should read and/or listen.

Historia
Lee Strobel became convinced that God was outmoded. Today science is supports the conclusion that the universe was intelligently designed. Darwinism has faltered in the face of facts and hard reason. Science definitely gives faith a boost as new findings emerge about the complexity of our universe. Strobel re-examines the theories that once led him away from God. You'll encounter discoveries from cosmology, DNA research, and human consciousness that present evidence in The Case for a Creator.

I can't say enough. If you are interested in political philosophy, then this is a book for you.The book presents an excellent case for the historical struggle between two distinct philosophies: utopian equality and individual liberty, beginning with Plato's Republic. As the story continues, you watch the struggle unfold and the themes continue through the present day. A masterpiece. A primer for those looking to dig deeper into the foundation of the human psyche and the governments we create.
