Historia
For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

narration too low, dialogues too high
Revisado: 03-13-24
the volume of the narration renders the book impossible to listen to. we need to up the volume to hear the narration just to be almost deafened by the high volume when dialogues start. do not spend your money on this narration.

Historia

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

never seen a Deus ex Machina last so long
Revisado: 03-13-18
starts as a serious sci fi book, then Deus ex machina happens and it becomes a crappy attempt at being funny with 4th grade level jokes. first half of the book is good, but has no closure. second part is useless. 3 stars because the first part is fun.

Historia
In 1177 B.C., marauding groups known only as the "Sea Peoples" invaded Egypt. The pharaoh’s army and navy managed to defeat them, but the victory so weakened Egypt that it soon slid into decline, as did most of the surrounding civilizations. After centuries of brilliance, the civilized world of the Bronze Age came to an abrupt and cataclysmic end. Kingdoms fell like dominoes over the course of just a few decades. No more Minoans or Mycenaeans. No more Trojans, Hittites, or Babylonians.

Read like a fiction book
Revisado: 05-15-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The book is great, excellent review of all the archaeological evidence and theories available about the "collapse" of the bronze age civilizations.
What didn’t you like about Andy Caploe’s performance?
The narrator performance was not appropriate for a non-fiction book. Letters and texts from the late bronze age were read with fake accents that sound really fake and are annoying to the listener.
Did 1177 B.C. inspire you to do anything?
Read more about the late bronze age (i've been browsing wikipedia about many of the people cited in the book)
Any additional comments?
please, never read a non-fiction book as if it was fiction. And no fake accents for languages extinct for more than 3000 years. The readers know those are translations, this is not a childrens book...
