4.5 ⭐️
Three modern day stories with loosely interconnected characters in various settings.

Really enjoyed this one. The FMCs and situations were different enough to be interesting, entertaining, enjoyable. The families and supporting characters also developed well.

Good writing, realistic, emotional and sometimes lol funny! The spice is worth bookmarking 😆

Many different accents and characters so kudos to the narrator. Most done very well and a couple need improvement but overall I really like this narrator for her range and flexibility.

What an enjoyable listen providing hours of entertainment! I was pleasantly surprised by how many touching and funny moments there were.

Stories of three “Ruthless Tycoons” who are lifelong friends, and their respective romantic relationships.

Ruthless is in the title so know you’re not getting nice guys at all as power imbalances and enemies-to-lovers are served up every time, and very well.

The characters are immersive thus so are the relationships. The plot lines creative and interesting so you are eager to follow the story. Secondary characters are also developed as the author draws you into the next book.

Excellent on the spicy scenes. Definitely worth a bookmark lol

Narration was quite excellent from all the women from my perspective. In the first book the male narrator’s Jamaican accent sounded more Irish or Nordic at times 😆. In one other book one of the male narrators was a bit flat or robotic for part of the story. But overall excellent differentiation of characters. Voice acting, accents etc

The first story was funny and entertaining even if a little sappy. The second was DNF and didn’t hold my interest as it didn’t have anything to draw me in early on. The third was an improvement with nymph werewolf pairing.

I liked that the stories were different however the 2nd not as good

Second in the series and a good story on Mikki & Connal. FMC is a genius with a hair trigger mouth that gets her into trouble but also fiercely brave and loyal.

Author did a good job of making her independent but not stupid so no smart women do dumb things requiring rescue then being mad about it. She is really mean but actually can take care of herself and others.

MMC is also funny as he has cultivated a persona that hides his true nature which he feels is too intense.

They were a good match great chemistry and as always Laurenston delivers scorching love scenes.

The action and fight scenes were enjoyable.

What I didn’t like was that there were too many storylines that felt like plots to other series. This just one of many of the author’s interrelated shifter series so it’s not that, but some of the plots felt unnecessary or incomplete. I’m left with the feeling I will maybe find out from a later book but that wasn’t made clear to me.

Good writing and narration hampered by uneven pacing, cluttered storyline and unlikable FMC

**Be warned this book refers to past prolonged violent sexual assaults, torture, gaslighting and other trauma.**

The first book was interesting as it introduces the reader to FMC with a mysterious background in a bad situation.

Enter MMCs ala Twilight, vampire and wolf, danger, mystery and subterfuge with unknown tormentors. Enough to continue.

Book 2 is FMC “I do dumb dangerous things and need rescue but boy am I mad because who gave you permission to help?!”
However we do get introduced to many more paranormal beings and places so that’s cool. Also some humor with therapist.

Book 3 is learning much more about Adara but curve balls with the romantic interest which seems weird after two books. Much more fighting, destruction, new worlds & FMC overcoming challenges all a plus. The way FMC treats MMCs makes her unlikeable and I was hoping to see Titus dump her.

Sooo much happens at the very end of the book, none of which was telegraphed in the many previous chapters and books so it felt like a shortcut.

Overall I think-it was slow for a lot of the first 2.6 books, there were too many mysteries to solve with her, and this could have been a book shorter.

Shelly Laurenston never disappoints with rich stories of colorful if imperfect characters, dysfunctional families, chosen families, lol humor, high-stakes conflict and scorching romance.

This was a great opening book into the Magnus Pack series. It was easy to get into right away with the action starting early on.

While there were a lot of characters and groups, I didn't have a problem figuring out who was who thanks in part to the narration.

Pretty cool plot which I wanted to see untangled. Only thing missing for me was earlier understanding of what motivated main antagonists. May have been a plot device or I may have missed it.

This one looked like more of the same but the sample seemed interesting so I gave it a shot.

Many tropes but the story was not overwhelmed by instalove or romance at the expense of solid storytelling.

I liked the journey characters took and getting to meet various fantasy characters, societies and rules.

I get really sick of the FMCs who are so bent on independence but really come across as incredibly selfish, foolish and reckless. This one suffers from some of the same but it was eventually handled better in this story, resulting in some believable natural consequences and character growth allowing me to remain invested in the FMC.

With so many types of creatures it could get confusing but I found it interesting and wanted to learn more about how all of the characters and groups are intertwined.

Good story and interesting figuring out what the FMC was up to and why.

Later she became more reckless and foolish whereas before she was very smart and measured. She became annoying and the story lost interest for me except for wanting to know about the FMC’s mother

This is only my second book in this part of the series. I went back to this one to understand the origin storyline better.

At first I thought the story was really interesting because it felt very realistic as to how a doctor and scientist would react to being told someone was a supernatural creature and going on this adventure.

But after a good while when she knew the score I found the FMC to be really annoying, that all too common book trope of equating being extremely difficult, contrary and just stupid with being strong and independent.

These ridiculous unnecessary conflicts in the face of catastrophic events made me really dislike the FMC and I was not invested in that part of the story.

However I did still enjoy learning the history of the vampire demon hybrids, their family legacy and world building.

Later in the book it seemed like there was a brief switch in narrators which was weird and confusing but maybe I missed the reason.

Hard to stand out in this crowded genre, but I was hooked early on by the twist and instant adventure.

This is my first time with this series and I was able to enjoy it as a standalone but still understood enough of the complex world by midway through the book to feel invested in the series and other characters.
