Historia
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

whoa! ends on an unexplained sort of cliff
Revisado: 02-18-25
Of course, we know it's a series but dang, that was a rough ending. the last half of this book feels like a set up for the next, with repeaing themes of the last. Fast paced, lots of action and also alot of backstory snuck in there. Left with more questions than answers, but I guess that's the intention. In that case, it was excellent.

Historia
It is a perfect July morning, and Elle, a 50-year-old happily married mother of three, awakens at “The Paper Palace” - the family summer place she has visited every summer of her life. But this morning is different: Last night, Elle and her oldest friend, Jonas, crept out the back door into the darkness and had sex with each other for the first time, all while their spouses chatted away inside. Now, Elle will have to decide between the life she has made with her genuinely beloved husband and the life she always imagined she would have had with her childhood love.

interesting characters
Revisado: 06-21-22
Interesting characters, I had some confusion with the time changes, there were a lot of minor characters track. Lost a star for me due to the ending, or lack thereof. Excellent narrator!
There were heavy topics covered including sexual abuse and adultery.

Loses a star because the synopsis gave away the ending. It was a good story though. Covered topics such as class/wealth disparity and also family life with mental illness.

It was ok
Revisado: 02-07-22
there was enough random details and side characters to keep you guessing but I found the main character unintelligent and unlikable. Maybe it was the narration or her thoughts that seemed derivative.

Historia
Working as a dedicated forensic psychiatrist for many years, Emma is not shocked so easily. Then she is assigned to work with Connie, a wife and mother accused of a despicable crime. Connie is suffering from dissociative amnesia - or at least seems to be. Now it is up to Emma to decide whether Connie can stand trial for her sins. But there is something about Connie that inexorably pulls Emma into her orbit. Too Close is a masterfully written riveting listen about the powerful - yet dangerous - closeness between women.

Interesting read, unexpectedly deep
Revisado: 02-02-22
I liked the book. The characters felt real, and emotions raw and real. I didn't think the description lined up with the book though. Yes, there is a closeness between the two narrators but the book was about much more than their relationship. It was about the changing dynamic of female relationships in general (friendly, romantic, and mother/daughter), the effects of addiction and mental illness, and the lives and experiences of women while coping with loss and life. Maybe the marketing team took the 'girl on girl' angle to sell it, but it wasn't a good description. It was deep and interesting. Glad I chose this one based on reviews.

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

Historia
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.
