Historia
On the evening of November 24, 1971, D. B. Cooper hijacked Flight 305—Portland to Seattle—with a fake bomb, collected a ransom of $200,000, and then parachuted from the rear of the plane, disappearing into the night...and into history. Fifty years later, Agent Pendergast takes on a bizarre and gruesome case: in the ghost-haunted city of Savannah, Georgia, bodies are found with no blood left in their veins—sowing panic and reviving whispered tales of the infamous Savannah Vampire.

....as a Pendergast fan. Story-meh. The 'hook' that leads to next book-OK/promising(ish). When Rene A. died, I knew that perfect Pendergast voice, as well as his interpretation of all the characters, was over. The Constance 'old woman' voice interpretation was the hardest to listen to, but I can't imagine it is easy to voice act a beloved group of characters that fans already have a set idea of. Maybe the most recent storyline can be used as a way to kind of mentally let go of the Rene vibe, as it were. Some sort of hidden/subtle/mysterious event/scenario where Pendergast is effected or changed in some way so all us diehard fans can acknowledge and make sense of the "change".

Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

Pretty Good
Revisado: 01-27-21
Pretty good. I am a fan of the Pendergast series, so am obliged. The Nora series is OK, The brief Pendergast appearance at the end seems kid of lame and forced in both editions. I know all the fans of the Pendergast series, like me, are sad about the loss of Rene Auberjonois but this narrator's interpretation makes me think they were told nothing about his character.......just a peek at the wiki page: "raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Pendergast retains his Southern manners and mellifluous Deep Southern accent." Why is it read as 'pompus britsh dude'?

Maria Bamford is a creative genius. But the process of creating is not something that “comes easily” or “is enjoyable” for her. So, over the years, she’s invented a number of helpful techniques for tricking, shaming, coercing herself into doing things. You Are (A Comedy) Special is 15-step comedic send up of a self help guide that examines Maria’s approach to stand-up in a hilarious fashion.

Practical and funny advice anyone could easily apply to their life. My hope has always been to fake-it-to-make-it AND coast. I feel I'm going to be able to call on many of these useful techniques to bring this plan to fruition. (to be read with an escalating level of intensity/insanity)

After I read all the 'edge of my seat' type reviews I got the series. I'm calling it quits at 5 hours into it and I'm super sad I wasted three credits.
My total listening time is 1 month, 9 days, 16hrs and 53 minutes...... this is the only book I've ever aborted and written off.

A startling crime with dozens of victims. Appearing out of nowhere to horrify the quiet resort town of Sanibel Island, Florida, dozens of identical, ordinary-looking shoes float in on the tide and are washed up on the tropical beach—each one with a crudely severed human foot inside.

It is not as interesting and clever as some of the other novels in the series, but it was pretty good. I, of course, repeatedly thought of how I miss Rene as Pendergast, but J.Mays did a good job with his interpretation.

Benton tells Kelly he has stumbled upon an amazing find: the long-sought diary of one of the victims, which has an enigmatic description of the Lost Camp. Nora agrees to lead an expedition to locate and excavate it-to reveal its long-buried secrets. Once in the mountains, they learn that discovering the camp is only the first step in a mounting journey of fear.

Pendergast adjacent
Revisado: 02-15-20
This was a nice between Pendergast novels filler. It was an interesting story with good characters. BUT-what was with the narrator's interpretation of Pendergast in the cameo? I can't imagine she knew anything about Pendergast to whip out that Boss Hog southern accent.

Fifty shades of Deadly Fear
Revisado: 10-13-13
Any additional comments?
The thriller aspect of the book was good-nice plot. It really should be categorized as a romantic/erotic thriller. The amount of sex was kind of silly and comprised 50% of the narrative. I found the numerous descriptors of male genitalia entertaining, especially compared to the fact only one was used for it's female counterpart(her "sex").
And really....erotic thriller? To each their own I guess.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.
