Outstanding story

But I wanted to scream after the epilogue.
“Chunk, you %!&$ idiot.”
In all seriousness. Andrews and Wilson have an amazing writing synergy. I can’t recommend them enough. Their storyline is always compelling and keeps me on edge.
Ray Porter’s performance was another exemplary narration.

Historia
After facing war, death, unruly gods, and unmitigated evil, Minalan the Spellmonger is forced to return to Farise, the site of his earliest battles, with the simple assignment to conquer the subtropical city-state and expel the pirates that plague the kingdom’s shipping. Tired of warfare, Minalan embarks on a clandestine campaign to do so, assuming an alias and setting up shop in Farise as a mere Practical Adept as cover for his operation. Recruiting a cadre of talented agents to assist, he reluctantly begins the task of infiltrating and observing Farisian society.

Revisado: 08-30-24
Thats how it felt anyway. Don't misunderstand, I love the story, the intense pace and the interesting characters. However, I genuinely felt bad for Duff. It was like the author said, "How can I make this as hard as possible for him?"
It worked out because Duff steps up to each challenge. At one point, I walked away from the book, upset, only to return later.
I didn't know at the time he is the same author who wrote the Grey Man series. It's a series I'm far more interested in now.

Wilson and Andrews deliver another winner
Revisado: 08-01-23
I started the book a little skeptical if they could write a compelling novel outside their usual genre. By halfway, I was as engrossed in the story as their others novels. Characters come to life as they struggle with the ethics of AI with the same moral dilemas many of us have when the subject inevitably arises. No matter where you stand on the subject, you will find yourself rooting for Val as she tackles hurdle after hurdle in a very fast paced thriller.

I love Andrews and Wilson, but not this story.
Revisado: 04-29-23
I absolutely LOVE their tier one and Dempsey series. This is a story about light vs dark and I understand there should be spiritual component but the constant references to God, prayer, church and faith isn't for me. They tried to make it non-denominational which is a plus. Setting my preference aside, if you don't mind it, then the story is compelling and thought provoking. The narration is excellent in my opinion. I can't give these guys anything less than 3 stars, despite my opinion. They're a fantastic writing team and I'll happily continue purchasing their books.

Historia
James Patterson’s thrilling adventure series gets an exclusive, audio-only origin story in Daniel X: Genesis, brought to life by an all-star cast. We meet Daniel, an ordinary teen just trying to navigate his way through high school. That all changes when he discovers he has super powers and can conjure up anything, at any time, just by imagining it. Suddenly he’s meeting powerful entities who tell him he is not, in fact, a typical teenage human but an alien...and his parents died not in a car wreck but in an epic battle with an intergalactic villain.

Predictable
Revisado: 02-09-23
I love Patterson. He's a literary icon worthy of all his accolades. Therefore his exemplary track record will survive one negative review.
I found the plot predictable and the main character annoying with his frantic responses to nearly every situation. The plot idea is good, but I felt it needed to be fleshed out more and less rushed.
I'm not partial to full-cast readings because I feel the sound effects replace scene descriptions. Meaning, at various times, I needed to backtrack and figure out what it tried to convey. I kept asking myself, "What did I just hear?" Not all full-cast readings can be like Sandman.
I'm sorry, I'm still a fan of James Patterson, just not this book.

Insightful
Revisado: 11-25-22
It's interesting to hear an educated point of view regarding the war. At the time of my listening, it's raged on for eight months with no end in sight. Since the history between the regions is so complicated, a single one hour episode is far too inadequate. I would like to hear more.

Historia
Demons. Monsters. Witches. James Crowley’s sacred duty as a Black Badge is to hunt them down and send them packing, banish them from the mortal realm for good. He didn’t choose this life. No. He didn’t choose life at all. Shot dead in a gunfight many years ago, now he’s stuck in purgatory, serving the whims of the White Throne to avoid falling to Hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his penance and fade away.

Exemplary Work!
Revisado: 08-31-22
Westerns aren't normally my preferred genre but this book hooked me. Each fight scene was gripping and well written. The story itself is far from predictable and the characters felt deep and thought out. What's more, is the superb narration of Roger Clark's rich gravelly voice made it feel that much more real.

In the end, only one rule matters. Fight to win. No matter how strong your opponent proves to be, or how bad the odds are of success. Fight to win. Even when it hurts like nothing you’ve ever felt before, and giving up seems to be the best option, you have to keep going. Fight to win.

Historia
When Minalan the Spellmonger was exiled from his beloved mageland of Sevendor by Prince Tavard, his friend Duke Anguin made him Count Palatine of the Magelaw, a vast realm in the Alshari Wilderlands that Minalan is all too familiar with. After the goblin invasion, the province is devastated, ruined, and peopled almost only by freed slaves. But Minalan has brought his recovering wife and family into exile with him, and he views their impoverished fief as an opportunity to build a new City of Magi in the wilderness.

Never disappoints
Revisado: 07-27-20
By the time I listen to this many books in a series I will generally notice a decrease in the quality of the story. I'm happy to report he not only keeps it up but continues to enrich his story with foreshadowing that is sometimes several books ahead. If you have listened to this many books so far then odds are you don't read the reviews. Assuming you are one of the individuals who does, then rest assured your decision to read Thaumaturge is well founded. Enjoy! I certainly did.
