Outstanding Elvis Cole
Revisado: 01-18-25
This was the best Elvis Cole/Joe Pike book in a while. The story is strong, writing is good (as always) and the characters were excellent

Historia
January 1970 finds Ezekiel “Easy” Rawlins, LA’s premier Black detective, at 50 years of age despite all expectations. He has a loving family, a beautiful home, and a thriving investigation agency. All is right with the world… and then Amethystine Stoller, his own personal Helen of Troy, arrives. Her ex-husband is missing. A simple enough case. But even as Easy takes his first step in the investigation he trips. He falls into the memory of things past. Little things, like loss, love, a world war, and a hunger that has eaten at him since he was a Black boy on his own.

Easy Rawlins Rides Again
Revisado: 06-26-24
My favorite Easy Rawlins book in many years. Great characters (although no Mouse) and several mysteries. More like a classic LA detective (ie, Raymond Chandler) novel than the most recent books in this series

Historia
It's hard to imagine our world without its stars and celebrity geniuses—they become a part of our culture and history, seeming permanent and preordained. But as Cass Sunstein shows in this startling book, that is far from the case. Focusing on both famous and forgotten (or simply overlooked) artists and luminaries in music, literature, business, science, politics, and other fields, he explores why some individuals become famous and others don't, and offers a new understanding of the role of greatness, luck, and contingency in the achievement of fame.

Interesting ideas
Revisado: 06-05-24
What could easily have been a five-star audio book due to the quality of the writing and ideas became less due to the narrator. He should have read it straight without his terrible impersonations of Dylan, McCartney, Lennon and many others.

Historia
After moving from a small country town to Seattle, Heather Baxter marries Tom, a widowed doctor with a young son and teenage daughter. A working vacation overseas seems like the perfect way to bring the new family together, but once they’re deep in the Australian outback, the jet-lagged and exhausted kids are so over their new mom. When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.

The great Jane Harper
Revisado: 05-06-23
Another great mystery novel from Jane Harper. I love her descriptions of Australia. Each book is set in a different part and the environment serves as a character. Also the narration is outstanding

Outstanding SF, not just YA
Revisado: 01-17-15
This book creates characters to care about, a world to believe in, and a fast moving plot. The language alternates between clunky and beautiful, but doesn't take you out of the world, the way so much SF can.
