I learned of Michael Gervais and his work during my time at Microsoft (Satya Nadella is a big fan which should tell you something). Other Gervais aficionados include Pete Carroll and his 2014 Super-Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks.

Over the course of several weeks I participated in a series of online courses and exercises designed by Gervais and his team to develop a High Performance Mindset.

The First Rule of Mastery contains many of those same lessons condensed into a short, easily digestible format. You’re getting a bargain here.

I loved listening to The First Rule of Mastery in Michael’s own voice. If you’re not already, you should be following Gervais on LinkedIn and YouTube.

Recommended for fans of Carol S. Dweck, Charles Duhigg, Brendon Burchard, and Ryan Holiday.

A lackluster adaptation of a timely classic

With each passing year George Orwell‘s dystopian vision of 1984 becomes eerily more prescient. Unfortunately, this set up patient really didn’t do it for me. I love the source material and I’m not sure if it’s the performances or the conversion to audio but I prefer the original text as read by Simon Prebble.

What rings of power should have been

Amazon Prime’s Rings of Power is bad fan fiction compared to this delightful collection of tales of Middle-Earth. The Wests prove to be wonderfully adept at creating an audio journey worth taking from season to season an editorial, Christopher Tolkien and his famous father.

Don't skip the Epilogue!

This review is for the audiobook version of The Roach by Rhett C. Bruno and narrated by R.C. Bray.

The world of the Roach has more in common with Alan Moore's Watchmen than with the standard DC or Marvel universes. The titular antihero reminds me of Rorschach in terms of both his motivation and attitude towards crime fighting. This is grim & gritty, 1980's-style superhero fiction at its best.

Refuge was an enjoyable bit of world-building with a fair bit of melodrama typical in Space Opera. The story crawled more than it ran, but Kate Reading was awesome.

Not sure where else to post this, but there is a companion PDF of pictures, diagrams, and illustrated notes from the book available for download from the publisher's site. Instructions to obtain the PDF are provided during the end credits of the audiobook (download link and password).

I'm not going to post the instructions here because I don't want to violate either Audible' or the publisher's terms and/or rights.

I do wish that the instructions for obtaining the PDF were found at the beginning of the book when they would have been more interesting and useful than after I'd finished it.
