Well-researched information and personal observations presented with great storytelling
Revisado: 06-06-24
Great narration. Interesting. His thoughts and opinions are based on facts and studies. He makes a few assumptions, yes, but he presents a vast amount of real facts and information and leaves the ultimate conclusions to the reader. His personal observations are from his travels across the globe to see and study various civilizations and their myths and cultures, both ancient and modern, He shows the big picture of humankind and our interconnected place in history today and for our future.
It’s a surprisingly easy and understandable read for such complex information and thoughts. He breaks this down with sensible organization and well-written language. It is a big volume, but I took it in pieces, listening when I was in the mood to be carried away to another plane of senses and thinking. His voice is calm yet enthusiastic, articulate yet casually friendly.
He invited me into his world of vast experience, and I left with great knowledge from which to draw my own conclusions and rationally accept his. Stick with it. Digest at your own pace. It’s worth the listen.

Historia
In this searing memoir, Congressman Jamie Raskin tells the story of the forty-five days at the start of 2021 that permanently changed his life—and his family’s—as he confronted the painful loss of his son to suicide, lived through the violent insurrection in our nation’s Capitol, and led the impeachment effort to hold President Trump accountable for inciting the political violence.

Well-written, well-narrated account of love for family and nation
Revisado: 05-07-22
One of the saddest times for Rep Jaime Raskin ; and one of the saddest times for our country’s democracy.
Raskin tells the inside story of the impeachment trial - through his eyes and from his great mind. As a lawyer, I especially appreciated the “courtroom” prosecution by him and the other impeachment managers - but it is explained well - the “why” and “why not”, etc.
Intertwined with all is the tragedy of the sudden loss of his son who remains with him in spirit and even guides him at timer. This father’s love of his whole big family makes this account of the great impeachment a very heartfelt story.
He’s a leader who is smart, kind, compassionate, loyal, and bound by the rule of law and his cherished constitution. He is also a man of restraint when necessary.
I don’t think I could have had that in his situations
If you are a diehard MAGA patriot, then skip this (and I doubt you are even reading this); however, if you are a history buff, a person interested in the impeachment or not, regardless of any political leanings, you will enjoy this one.
Thank you, Representative Raskin, for all you have done and continue to do for our great nation.

A “need” to read; a “want” to finish
Revisado: 02-05-22
I don’t usually write reviews, but this collection is so excellent that everyone needs to dive right in. It’s not going to make you feel guilty or resentful)whichever applies); instead, it will make you feel understanding, compassion, informed, and motivated.
Each chapter is a wonderful stand alone study or telling, but i read from cover to cover. I had high expectations for this book, and it was greater. The narration is very, very well done also. I gifted this book, and I will read it someday, but it makes for the perfect audio.

Interesting story, well written and perfectly narrated. A must read for fans of story telling at its finest
Revisado: 07-04-21
You don’t not have to be a fan of Steve Earle’s songwriting - or even have heard of him - to enjoy this story he has penned into literature. You will become a fan. To those of us who are fans, it is yet another great work filled with transformative characters symbolic of darkness, denial, hope, belief, trust, change, and redemption. They are perfectly voiced by Earle, who narrates.
The story is spiritual and introspective; yet it is witty and fast-paced.
Earle is a master of story and song; and this shows the delightful side of his stories put into a novella form. I hope we see many more. Until then, we can find his profound stories within his songs.

“This is a story about an idea that I have,” Americana legend and self-proclaimed “recovering folk singer” Steve Earle states early in his enthralling Words + Music performance. “This job of mine becomes an artform spontaneously in 1965 - when Bob Dylan wants to be John Lennon, and John Lennon wants to be Bob Dylan, whether either one of them would admit it or not - and in that moment, rock and roll becomes art."

Reminder that he is one of the greatest storytellers of our time
Revisado: 06-19-21
If you’re not already a fan of his songs and the views from his eyes, then you are in for a treat.
If you are a fan, then settle in for more pholosophizing and romanticizing.
And some choice songs from influences.
In addition to being able to rock it out, he IS a folk singer, a real humdinger (to borrow the words of our beloved John Prine, RIP) If you loved this, find his “story and song” shows.
He is a powerful force and face of some liberal causes, and we are lucky that he gets it out there.
He’s missed in Nashville, but we appreciate his visits.
(You should do another one of these. Can’t wait to see what’s next. And to hear it too.

Historia
James Dommek, Jr., an Alaska Native writer and musician, sheds new light on a real-life mystery that pits Native American folklore against the US justice system. In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. This changed forever when an actor-turned-fugitive, Teddy Kyle Smith, had an encounter that brought Iñukuns from myth to reality. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Well-done production Great for a one-sitting listen or keep your place
Revisado: 12-08-19
Mr Dommek, Jr. has done an excellent job here. I learned much about Alaskan tribal culture and the people settled there today - as a “white girl” from out of town. (Referencing a movie clip within the book). In podcast form, he combines interviews, courtroom drama, travels, and music. It’s suspenseful as to the real world and the possible world. He’s an excellent story-teller; just like his ancestors he has inherited this gift. Thank you for sharing with us.
