I enjoy the H. Lennox series. This was particularly interesting due to the archaeological dig that was occurring as the murders unfold.

England, 1926. When esteemed detective Lord Edgington and his novice grandson Christopher plan a trip to the beautiful Forest of Dean, they hope for nothing more than a relaxing weekend with old friends. What they discover among the dark halls and secret passageways of Clearwell Castle is a centuries-old injustice and a rivalry that has ripped the area apart. After two apparently unconnected villagers are murdered, Lord Edgington must pick the killer from a parade of cheery locals, cagey aristocrats and their sworn rivals.

Enjoyable listen. I like the explanations that BB gives at the end of the story. His historical facts and settings are a favorite of mine. In fact, I enjoy his explinations as much as the story.

Historia
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

Don’t expect the ordinary when reading this book. Horowitz must get bored writing in a predictable manner. So one never knows where the story will take them and that is why I love his books. He scored a “hat trick” with this one!

I dislike some of the profanity, especially taking my Lord’s name in vein. However, I love the personalities of the characters and how the author looks into their souls. This is a wonderful series that has captivated me.
