Historia
Did Jesus Christ really rise from the grave? The credibility of the Christian faith rests on this claim, and Jesus’ own disciples laid down their lives to defend it. However, the resurrection of Christ is often dismissed as fantasy by those who assume that miracles are a scientific impossibility. Is faith in the empty tomb nothing more than blind belief In Alive: How the Resurrection of Christ Changes Everything, Dr. Gabe Fluhrer demonstrates that Jesus’ defeat of the grave is no mere myth - it is a historic reality supported by overwhelming evidence.

Historia
How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman discusses how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of "expressive individualism." Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics and explains the modern implications of these ideas.

Admittedly, I wasn’t sure if I would like this book or not. However, the content, narration, and format of the book were incredible. I highly recommend it to those who would like a straightforward understanding of social issues against the backdrop of Christian theology. The recommendations
At the end of the book were not as strong as I would like it to be, but perhaps that is for a future book. And I would read it!

Historia
The Son of God was crucified, died and buried, and He lay in the tomb for three days—until He walked out shining like the sun. In a culture in which history is erased or rewritten at will, the existence of an empty tomb matters. Why? Because if the tomb is empty—then anything is possible. Joby Martin dives deep into scripture and traces the story of salvation by highlighting the seven mountains throughout scripture where God manifests himself. As he describes each encounter with God, Martin shows us how the interaction on each mountain laid the groundwork for Christ's sacrifice.

Mixed review
Revisado: 01-01-24
There were things that I really liked about this book. For instance, the author has a wonderful ability to tell about the Bible, in a way that it brings it to life. However, there were some passages that were incredibly slow or drawn out, and worse, he attacks certain religions. I certainly don’t think that is necessary.

Historia
In the spiritual life, we need a central idea: something so basic and comprehensive that it encompasses everything else. According to Carmelite Father Wilfrid Stinissen, surrender to God, abandonment to the One who loves us completely, is that central reality. The life of Jesus shows us the centrality of abandonment, for it is truly the beginning and the end of his mission on earth.

Although I enjoyed portions of this book, the target audience is Catholic, and not necessarily all Christians. I’m not opposed to that, but I wish the book description would have been more clear and I probably would’ve not purchased the book because there is a lot of unfamiliar jargon for me

Historia
The question of the historicity of Jesus' resurrection has been repeatedly probed, investigated, and debated. And the results have varied widely. Perhaps some now regard this issue as the burned-over district of New Testament scholarship. Could there be any new and promising approach to this problem? Yes, answers Michael Licona. And he convincingly points us to a significant deficiency in approaching this question: our historiographical orientation and practice.

I took a chance on this book
Revisado: 10-02-23
Given that this might be the first audible review, I thought it would be helpful to others if I shared my experience with this book. I downloaded the book because I was interested in the resurrection of Jesus, with a overview of those who believe in the resurrection versus those who do not. I was also very interested in the section about miracles, which I am currently studying. For those who are familiar with academia, this audiobook reads very much like a dissertation, and in my opinion, the book needs to be edited for the general reader or layman because there are many terms that the general readerwill not recognize or understand if they have not taken a class on studying scripture before. The first section or chapter about understanding truth is certainly a bit overkill, and I recommend only skimming it briefly then moving onto the next section. There is a lot of great information in this book, especially if you are interested in the scholarship regarding different viewpoints of the resurrection and miracles.

Historia
In Trauma and Memory, best-selling author Dr. Peter Levine (creator of the Somatic Experiencing approach) tackles one of the most difficult and controversial questions of PTSD/trauma therapy: Can we trust our memories? While some argue that traumatic memories are unreliable and not useful, others insist that we absolutely must rely on memory to make sense of past experience. Dr. Levine suggests that there are elements of truth in both camps.

What you need to know before buying this book
Revisado: 12-07-19
First, as noted by other reviewers, this book is most suited for clinicians and professionals who are already somewhat familiar with the terms from the book. At the beginning of this book it indicated that the book was also indicated that the pages would also essentially help those who wanted to better understand their own experience with trauma and memory; if the author (whom I greatly admire) ever reads my review, I would strongly recommend removing this assertion from his book.
For those who want the bulk of this information in a self-improvement format, I can recommend a different (if not older) book by the same author, "Healing Trauma." Although the "Healing Trauma" book does not focus primarily on memory, it does provide a chapter on it toward the end. The exercises are also very simple and useful.
Despite having a strong academic background and incredible interest in the trauma and memory connection, this book will need to be exchanged for another book that i feel I can connect to. IF you are not a clinician and you still think you'll like this book, I strongly recommend listening to the introduction and then skipping to chapter 5 (or so). The case studies in this book are great, but again the target audience is the clinician.

Well worth my time
Revisado: 02-09-19
I seldom write reviews. And I was not paid to write this review in any way. I just wanted to say "thank you." There are a lot of books out there with philosophical or general ideas, but this book provided me with many specific tasks to help me. I am always a bit skeptical of "sales" and "marketing" books, but this one worked well for me.
